Thankfully, I found that the items and notions I purchased from Pixie Faire are just the right size. They have suggested links to purchase the thin velcro. Sometimes I find small buttons and JoAnne’s and Walmart. I like the fabrics shown on Pixie Faire but have never been able to get them before they were sold out.
I have the hardest time finding closed end zippers for 18" dolls. I live in British Columbia, Canada and the shipping prices from the states are horrendous.
I shop at a lot of different places for doll-sized sewing notions—the big problem is finding those things at reasonable prices.
I agree it is a challenge to find sewing supplies for dolls. I have purchased items from JoAnn’s as well as Hobby Lobby. However, I have learned to check out the scrapbooking areas and definitely the close outs. Jewelry findings can be used for buckles, buttons and embellishments. Etsy has sources for zippers, hook & loop tape and trims. One of my favorite places to shop on-line is Farmhouse fabrics. Beautiful quality, great service and lots of trims. I do not make my doll clothes for sale or for small children so I am willing to spend a little more. We have several nice quilt shops in our area and small prints in cotton are easy to find at these locations. Antique stores & resale shops are great sources for laces and unusual fabrics.
I shop for my supplies at a variety of places, Joann’s, Hobby Lobby, Walmart, local thrift shops.
I have the hardest time finding tiny shoelaces, but I have found lots of other notions at the 127 yard sale.
I find doll sized notions and great fabric scraps at a wonderful, family-owned and run, huge fabric store called Mary Jo’s in Gastonia, NC. I am just 15-20 minutes away here in Kings Mtn. Although doll-sized zippers are a challenge to find. I generally go with velcro or snaps because of that.
I get a lot of my fabric at garage sales, thrift shops and remnants at fabric stores. Walmart, Joann’s and Hobby Lobby for buttons and snaps. I ordered some of the thin velcro online and it works much better than cutting the thicker in half. I’m only sewing for one doll so
don’t need a lot of things. Zippers can be bought on line.
“I shop for buttons at Joanne Fabric
“I have the hardest time finding zippers
I repurpose items and sew from my stash. I haven’t tried to find zippers, but would imagine they are difficult to find. I see you have some sources listed. Thank you.
I have the hardest time finding doll sized zippers! : (
I shop for doll notions at eBay, Etsy, ZipperthatDoll, and from my own stash of supplies found over the years at yard sales and flea markets.
I have the hardest time finding tiny zippers, with velcro being a close second.
“I shop for doll supplies at hobby lobby" OR i shop online and pthsys how i found pixie fairie
I shop for my my doll sewing supplies online with Sewing With Nancy, and at Hobby Lobby.
I have the hardest time finding doll size buckles. I get almost everything else online from the sites listed by cinnamon. Local, quilt stores near me usually have tiny buttons.
I shop for notions and supplies for doll clothes at Wal-Mart and Hobby Lobby. Like many others I cut down Velcro and zippers to fit the smaller clothes.
I’ve found the most adorable small prints for doll clothes from Kawaii Meow, a Japanese seller on Etsy. She’s fantastic ! The fabrics are incredible, including some licensed ones unavailable in the States, and her notions are top-notch, well-packed and reasonably priced. Sure, it might take almost two weeks to arrive, but that’s plenty of time to plot and daydream of my next creation with it !
I shop for doll-scale fabric and trim at Jo-Ann’s.
I shop in ‘my stash". I’ve been saving and buying for years. Anything that catches my eye. Also shop yard sales. You wouldn’t believe the people selling their stash of doll supplies. Also shop Home Sew – it’s a great on line store. Of course, we can’t forget Nancy’s Notions – fabric, supplies, books, patterns, cut out and sew fabric panels for doll clothes. Sorry, can you tell I love on-line shopping!!
I shop for in the hoop doll clothes patterns at the sew expo.
I shop for zippers and the like at Pixie Faire
I have the hardest time finding just the right lace(s) for period dresses. Our local fabric stores have a limited variety. This contest has been fun! Thank you for sponsoring it.
I shop for doll supply at Walmart.
I have the hardest time finding zippers for doll.
My Girls love doll clothes with BLING!! It is so hard to find. I ordered some buckles from Amazon but had to purchase a bag of 100 buckles when I only needed about 3. I would love a stash of magic to bling out our doll clothes. I so appreciate pixie faire.
I have the hardest time finding fabric and notions that are suitable for dolls. Usually the print is too large or the fabric is too thick, bulky along the seams after it’s sewn, and small buttons and notions are hard to find. I’m glad we have a website such as Pixie Faire to buy items suitable for doll clothes.
I have the hardest time finding small zippers, especially separating zippers
I shop for fabric usually at Joann Fabrics, and I’m always looking at estate and garage sales. Most of my notions for Dolls I buy on Etsy. When I worked in an alteration shop, I was able to get my zippers from the wholesale catalog
I buy my zippers from cleanersupply.com and find buttons and other trims at Joann’s to get small print I look at Joann’s fat quarters or use what scraps I have from reg sewing
I have a stash of fabric that somehow continues to grow even though I have sworn off buying fabric! I buy my notions ay WalMart, JoAnns, or from the Goodwill. Baby clothes have small zippers, and children’s clothing have small buttons. I buy strips of Velcro and cut it in half lengthwise. I would love a stash of doll size zippers.
Where I live you can’t find doll items for sewing unless you buy online. I get mine from thrift store clothes for kids. Of course this means small zippers etc. are a no go . Would love this and to see a resource list !
I am blessed to have a small box of lace and tating trims, buttons and miscellaneous from grandmother and hand me downs from people who no longer sew. But still have trouble finding that small item to complete an outfit. I retired 8 years ago and thought now I am going to have time to sew. Looking forward to that day.
I have the hardest time finding any doll sized notions! I live in a fabric and notion wasteland.
I shop for my sewing supplies at Walmart and JoAnn Fabric. They don’t have a very good selection of notions for sewing small clothes. I would liketo try sewing jackets with separating zippers.
I have the hardest time finding notions for doll clothes, zippers (no short zippers or narrow Velcro) buttons, etc. I live in a small town that has a Walmart with almost no supplies in their sewing aisle (one side of one very short aisle) and a sewing/craft shop catering mostly to quilters. I look forward to seeing new patterns each week and have made many. Really enjoy. Thanks so much.
“I shop for sewing supplies, doll accessories everywhere, all the time. I rarely go into a store without thinking I could make… or that would be perfect for… I am fortunate that I live in a big city (Phoenix) so I can usually find what I need locally but I often shop online as well.
I have a hard time finding small buttons, small print fabric and small zippers and snaps, etc. Joanns Fabric is the only fabric shop in the area besides a couple of quilting shops. Find Joanns fabrics are not quality fabrics. Wish there were other fabric shops in my area of Northern Massachusetts.
I have the hardest time finding doll-sized zippers, and good fabric/vinyl for doll shoes! Though I do do find doll-sized buttons at JoAnn’s, and I have found doll-sized trims & laces at Simplicity and from etsy stores like Toma Craft Place and Delightfull Designer.
I usually get my supplies at hobby lobby. However, I love checking out second hand stores. I have also found that granny garage sales have amazing sewing finds, they have unique buttons, threads, etc. And all vintage, for super cheap!
I have the hardest time finding any notions for my 18" doll clothes. There are few fabric stores locally and the ones that are here carry a limited amount of notions. I scrounge what I can from used clothing and I am always on the look out everywhere I go to see if I can adapt anything to this size clothing. I have ordered some stuff from China but the quality is not always what I can use. To order elsewhere requires a huge investment in shipping which would make my clothes too costly.
“I shop for small doll type items all the time even when I’m not making doll clothes. I tend to find these small items here and there in different places but I’ve never found a place that would have everything I would want. I find small buttons at Walmart or I might find a tiny zipper at my fabric shop so it would be nice to have a supplier who has most of the things I would need for small clothing articles. Buttons that are small are also good for some of my embroidery projects so if they don’t get used in one place, they get used in another, but then I also have a lot of things like this stockpiled. I should open my own store one day. lol I would certainly love to win this lovely package of small doll items.
I have the hardest time finding lace small enough for doll clothes without having to cut it. I also miss the fabric pixie packs-they were fun and easy :) – but I am very grateful for all the links for supplies provided through the Sewing with Cinnamon blog!
“I have the hardest time finding any supplies to create doll clothes. I either cut Velcro down to fit or make buttons out of small beads. Other findings become a real challenge and what I can afford as I am on a very limited budget. Sometimes I’m able to take donated old doll clothes that are unrepeatable apart and use findings. I have purchased what I can from your venders and am so great full. Thank you for all you do. Blessings and bless all those that partisapate in this wonderful site. Thank you
I shop for zippers and other small supplies at Pixie Faire I know the quality is good and a great variety.
I shop at Joann and Hobby Lobby and Etsy for all my notions
I shop hobby lobby for small buckles. I use leather for belts. I have a hard time finding small zippers, I sometimes cut longer ones down. Thank you for doing the 12 days Christmas, it has been helpful and fun.
I shop for tiny buttons at Walmart or Hobby Lobby.
I have found the thin Velcro on etsy. I get a lot of small buttons at WalMart. I look everywhere I shop for small items. I have found some nice small items in the jewelry department at Joanne Fabrics, including some round things that are perfect for pie pans. I shop for small lace in the 3 boxes of lace I accumulated when my daughter was small! LOL
I shop for doll size notions at Joann’s or online. I purchase colored Velcro at Hobby lobby and cut it in half.
I have the hardest time finding decorative accents. For instance…love the cloak for today’s freebie. Where do I find that closure?
I keep my eyes open for anything that i can use or adapt. In our town we have JoAnn Fabrics and Hobby Lobby, so I sometimes go to Portland and buy from Fabric Depot. It’s always fun to score tiny buttons, ribbons, or lace, but I have yet to find a doll sized zipper!
I usually am able to find buttons at my JoAnn’s but I have problems finding zippers.
I have the hardest time finding clear Velcro for shoe making reasonable.
I have a hard time finding buttons and embellishments in appropriate sizes. I live in a very rural area and have only a Wal Mart to shop at local. Otherwise, it’s over 100 miles to shopping areas. I purchase most supplies from online sources but it’s difficult to choose the exact colors, etc. from a website.
I shop for doll notions at Home Sew. I have the hardest time finding toggle buttons in the right scale for dolls. Also I can’t find a straw Anne of Green Gables type hat – help!!
I have the hardest time finding doll scale print fabric and doll scale accessories, like a football helmet. Would like to make an army outfit and cover a helmet in camouflage. But alas I have not found one. Zipper That Doll is a great place for zippers and buttons. They have the tiniest buttons for Barbie.
zippers that separate…..JoAnn fabric is the only store around here
I generally check out every clearance section in the fabric shops in our area…..I love finding a great bargain on either fabric or notions that I can use for my doll clothes.
I go to JoAnn’s, or the Thrift stores ..for great finds for doll clothes & sometimes super notion finds too. we do alot of repurposing lol
I shop for doll notions and shoes at CR CRAFTS. They have a catalog and online store in Iowa. Helps me out.
I shop for everything I sew at Sew What’s New in Islip, NY. They have everything I need and are great with doll clothes - sewing advice, classes, and notions. Very friendly and helpful!!
I shop for interesting or vintage fabric at local thrift stores.
I shop for basic buttons at Joann’s, unique buttons on eBay, shoe soles at Pixie Faire, and I make my own piping (it’s easier than it looks).
Ecery time I visit NRe York City, I try to schedule some time to go to the Fashion District. There are some many stores with a wealth of products, including Jonathan Buttons (they will make button holes while you wait). There is also a kiosk on 7th Ave – you just tell them what you are searching for and they will direct you to the best shops for what you are looking for.
I have had the hardest time finding the little buttons for the doll dresses.
I shop for fabric primarily on line at Hart’s Fabrics (thank you for the tip Cinnamon!), Farmhouse Fabrics, etsy, and other stores. I shop for ribbon and trims on etsy-there are a wide variety of sellers. I prefer to see and feel fabric in person but most shops locally cater to quilters so choices can be limited.
I usually find the small zippers at Home Sew, I shop at Jo-Anns and Hobby Lobby any where that they sell sewing supplies you never know where you may come up upon them. The hardest item for me to find is pretty laces that are small enough for doll clothes.
Zipper that Doll has doll sized zippers and very thin Velcro. Etsy is a great source for some fabrics and small buttons.
I have the hardest time finding narrow, soft hook and loop tape to use on doll clothes.
I shop for all my doll sewing supplies at Joanne Fabrics.
Sadly, I have just avoided using notions. U need to step up my game. Maybe, if I won these, it would get me started.
I have the hardest time finding the right type of fabric for doll clothes. There are so many to chose from, and lots of them are too thick or too bulky, or the printed design is too big.
I buy supplies on Amazon or at fabricland, the local fabric store.
I shop for small zippers and overall fasteners at Hobby Lobby.
They don’t carry much in this department. It is very difficult to find the little fasteners you use for the overalls.
This is so cool. I had such a hard time finding these things when I was sewing for my Granddaughter in Singapore for her doll. She cannot buy things there that we have and I try to send as often as I can. I have marked this as favorite site so when I pan what I am going to do I can order all the right things to make the project the best.
It is interesting to learn the various ways inwhich sewers obtain materials for their doll clothes projects. I like the idea of cutting velcro strips in half the long way to get a narrow strip for closures. It makes it easier for my granddaughters to dress the dolls.
I find separating zippers at see and save in racine wisconsin
I have the hardest time finding nice quality, but inexpensive, tiny buttons to doll clothes.
Pixie Faire is great!
I have the hardest time finding doll size Velcro and other notions
I have the hardest time finding small zippers and thin Velcro. I usually cut my own strips from soft Velcro. Since finding pixiefaire patterns I have really raised the level of my doll clothes, and have found a wealth of resources just reading the comments of all the wonderful sewists who have entered this contest. Thank you all!
I have the hardest time controlling myself from buying more and more things to create doll clothes, my sewing room is full. Time to get busy,
I have hard time finding doll size notions. I normally just google then I go to Sewing for 18 inch dolls site to see if anyone has ordered from them as I live out in the country where there isn’t much around.
I shop for doll clothes supplies at a myriad of different stores and 2nd hand shops.
Re-purposed buttons and clothing to make inexpensive doll clothes.
I try to find my notions at Jo-Ann and Hobby Lobby but not always successful. Finding small print material is another problem I have.
Pixie Faire has a lot of things needed for making doll clothes. Amazon is also good, I don’t have a special store I just use what is available, and seize the opportunity when I find it.
I have been getting things from HOme Sew for years.
I shop for material at fabric mart. The hardest thing to find is zippers and steampunk dodads.
I use recycled zippers, buttons, etc. …so winning this stash of notions will be a treat.
Ebay or Amazon online.
I love the freebies I am just learning. I DONATE them to the hospital. THANK YOU
I love all the creative inspiration from Pixie Faire. For supplies I shop at local Joann’s, Hobby Lobby and have ordered from Home Sew. But I am always on the hunt for fabric and small scale items for use with dolls.
JoAnns and Hobby Lobby are the places i use for sewing supplies. Then there are thrift stores etc. notions are hard to find in the small sizes.
I have the hardest time finding tiny buttons in colors that look nice with the clothes I am making.
I have the hardest time finding properly proportioned notions and trims to use on doll clothes and shoes. Especially decorative items for that finishing touch. Thank you to Pixie Faire and everyone who has shared where they get theirs. Lots of wonderful ideas I’m excited to try!
I have the hardest time finding anything doll related regarding to sewing locally. I rely on baby clothes and such to get what I need. Duh! Glad I read these comments. Never realized there were online resources just for this.
I have the hardest time finding small zippers for eighteen inch dolls.
I find most of my notions for doll clothes at JoAnn’s and Home Sew, love their catalog.
“I have the hardest time finding tiny buttons. Most that I find are too thick for the doll clothes so I would love to find a supplier that sold delicate buttons for the doll clothes.
1. Fabric at Joann’s Fabrics
If I can’t find what I need in my own stash I shop for supplies at the local thrift stores. Sometime I find nothing and other times I seem to hit the jackpot.
“I have the hardest time finding tiny print fabrics.
