I have the hardest time finding smaller scale fashion doll /Barbie sized notions like buttons, buckles, and small antique looking findings, etc. for historical gowns. I shop alot of thrift stores and auctions for older clothing for vintage fabrics that have older gowns that have damage and can be used/recycled for a lovely doll gowns.

I have the hardest time finding any sort of trim, zipper, buckles, not to even mention foamies, as the 18 inch doll in South Africa is relatively new. I am thinking of opening a online store in my country. I am dabbling with patterns (have bough some from all the clever designers on your site) We have imported 3 dolls already o.o I will hold thumbs to get this prize! Great staring point.

I have the hardest time finding visual closures in the correct scale for dolls. Such as frogs and military type buttons. Some are too small believe it or not and will not work for the 18 inch dolls. I also sew for other size dolls so am always looking for notions for dolls.

I shop for doll supplies like separating zipper, buckles and other needed notions at Joann’s and Michaels. I have found cute buckles at the dollar tree in the girls hair accessories. In the summer time, yard sales are a treasure cove for supplies. Basically everywhere I go I am on the look out for something to use in making 18" doll clothes.

I shop at Thrift Stores and some time Walmart when I can get out . But I have a hard time finding small zippers. They are gone or not the color I’m looking for. A lot of time I use old small purses or baby clothes and fabric I get cheep from the thrift store. Sometime I use old clothes for button and sometimes I get lucky I find bags of old buttons. My granddaughters wants me to make them wedding dresses for their dolls so I cut up my wedding dress and took off all the lace and beads to make the dresses. I just started to recycle clothes what ever I find to make them clothes for there dolls. Sense I can’t work anymore because of my health I do what I can do to make clothes. It don’t have to be new to make nice clothes.

I shop locally at craft and fabric stores like Michaels or Joann’s. I like to repurpose fabric from things my daughter has outgrown. For example, a pair of sandles that she out grew were not in good enough shape to donate, so I took off the rubber sole to use on doll shoes. Or we had an old metal chain belt that we took some of the rings off of and used them as D rings with some trim to make a few doll belts. It’s fun to see what you can retreat from the things you have laying around.

Thank you sooooooooo much for the doll supply URL’s/Links !

“I shop for [the tiniest doll shoe buckles] at [online or anywhere for that matter]"

“I have the hardest time finding [tiny cloth trims and cloth (fabric) embellishments]”

I live in a small Country Town in South Africa, so the Internet and Online Shopping is where I mostly shop. It is an expensive and lengthy endeavor but which I gladly make when finding what I need to finish off that special doll outfit that is in my head.
*Expensive – because our (Rand) does not perform as well as other Countries’ on the International Monetary exchange ie Dollar / Pound / etc. … AND … Shipping and Custom Costs have to be taken into account as well.
*Lengthy – because you have to patiently wait for these items to arrive

So if you do not want / not able … to buy online you find a way of Creating yourself ‘that’ which you need (for example … I make my own tiny buttons from coloured plastic bottles and paper punches or from different plastics that shrink (up-cycling)

Here are some of the places I frequent ONLINE, when looking for speciality tools, fabrics, materials, etc ;-
https://www.joggles.com/
https://dollmakersjourney.com/supplies.html
https://www.joann.com/
https://clothdollconnection.com/FabricandSupplies.html (Here too you will find a comprehensive list of many other online shops)

I also buy a lot from https://www.ebay.com/ (with mix success)

Thanks again Pixie Faire for all the opportunities you bring us … 12 Lucky Ladies are going to be very happy!
