12 Days of Christmas - Day 12 January 5th 2018

Hi everyone,

Welcome to Day 12 of our 12 Days Of Christmas celebration!

Today we are giving away a huge Doll Notions Grab Bag prize to 12 lucky winners! That's right! 12 Winners! I'm pretty sure we're all on the hunt for doll size notions and this amazing giveaway is full of a variety of supplies to keep you stocked up for quite a while! The giveaway includes 5 and 6 inch separating zippers, cording, tiny cameo buttons, pre cut shoe soles, vinyl pieces, cluny trim, buckles, parachute buckles, hook and loop tape, boning, ribbing, and more...

Congratulations to Cheiry, Ruth, Pennie, Margot, Kathi M, Christina, Lily, Joann, Stephanie, Jane, Lindak, and Krissie! You've each won a notions grab bag and have been contacted by email.

For most sewing projects, standard sewing supplies are used and easy to find. For a variety of doll clothes patterns the supply lists recommend doll scale supplies and notions. Over the years we've come across a few of our favorite places to find these items:

  • Home Sew - Check out thier Cinnamon's Favorite Things collection! Find 5" and 6" separating zippers in both nylon coil and metal teeth styles, narrow hook and loop tape, tiny buttons, and buckles.
  • Zipper That Doll - Find tiny separating zippers and closed end zippers
  • Zip It - Find a variety of colors of invisible zippers
  • Girl Charlee - great selection of ribbing and knits

Now it's your turn! Where do you find doll scale notions and supplies? Share your secret finds and sources below. I'm sure together we can create the ultimate doll scale sewing supply resource list! A surprise gift for everyone invloved :)

I shop for small notions on clothing at thrift stores, my local Walmart (Only store we have) on line, and whenever I am out of town I keep my eyes out. I shop the fashion district in Los Angeles. I am able to find small zippers and small lace as well as upholstery samples that are great for making coats. I love to catch the metro train and make the hour and 15 minute trip to Union Station, then catch the underground and finally walk the remaining blocks to the fashion district.
I agree small zippers in the right colors and type of teeth are difficult to find.
Thank you Pixiefaire for offering so many exciting contests and of course the patterns. You motivate a huge number of people in the doll world…..including ME, whom I never imagined being so wrapped up in this creative endeavor. Happy New Year!

I shop constantly for “findings” . Quilt show vendors ( often buttons ), craft stores, craft shows, doll shows, antique shows and malls, second hand stores and on line as well as the usual fabric locations. I can then plan outfits using my items. I dig and spy in boxes often finding doll sized items for use…it’s an expedition! Make sure your friends know of your quest…I often get finds from friends!

I have the hardest time finding Barbie sized notions: buttons, zippers, grommets and eyelets. I also wish I could visit a fabric store of the 1950s where batiste, organdy, wool felt, narrow lace and silk were available.

Notions such as separating zippers or buckles are almost impossible to find in our stores. I watch on women’s and girl’s nightgowns for tiny coloured buttons and recently I found a tiny plaid fabric on a pair of boy’s underwear. It made a really cute pair of white and plaid pjs from them. Sssh. Don’t tell.

I have the hardest time finding tiny beads for non-chunky jewelry and embroidery. The REALLY tiny ones have holes too small for needles. I can deal with that, when I can FIND the beads.

I shop at Fabricland for most of the notions I need for doll clothing. Unfortunately they don’t specifically carry the things needed for doll sized clothing. The things I’ve found the most difficult items to find here in Canada are thin and narrow Velcro and separating zippers in short lengths.

I had been able to find tiny buttons, picking them out from a bin of mixed sized buttons at a liquidation store until they closed a few months ago. I retired from teaching elementary school for 35 years. I have enjoyed receiving doll patterns from Pixie Faire. Thank you for offering such fine products in your contests.

“I have the hardest time finding [theme fabrics in the proper scale ]” My grandchildren, God children and all their friends want fun patterns, especially holiday prints but those are mostly way to large to use for doll clothing looking out of proportion.

Once upon a time, Daisy Kingdom used to put out tons of pattern in dual for “me and my dolly” now it is nothing short of a miracle to stumble upon them.

Anyone know a good place to look?
