"Mother of 3 adult kids. Born and raised in Cape Town South Africa.
I learned to knit at 7, and over the years, picked up crocheting, embroidery, and sewing. After high school, I started my nursing career at Groote Schuur Hospital and later moved to Mauritius after marrying my husband. Following the birth of my first son, I designed and sold my first pattern to Better Homes and Gardens in 1986.
After 15 years in nursing, I became a housewife, studying Occupational Health and IATA, and briefly ran a baby items business. I then returned to sewing, attending Fashion and Design school and learning pattern drafting.
My journey into doll design began when my sister-in-law asked me to knit doll clothes. I discovered Liberty Jane, connected with Liese Brouwer, and quickly started designing for dolls. I won a sewing and knitting competition, which led to publishing 15 patterns on platforms like Etsy and Craftsy. Joining Pixie Faire four years ago was a turning point, where with help from designers like Chris Saunders, Genine Allen, and the Pixie Faire testers, I published over 25 patterns.
As I approach my 60th birthday, I celebrate my journey as a pattern designer, grateful for the support from Liese, my tester Carol, and the Pixie Faire community. Thank you all for making this success possible!"
Inquiring Minds Want To Know:
Q: What's your favorite food?
My favorite South African dish is roasted leg of the lamb with gravy, spicy rice, mixed vegatables, pumkin and broccoli with white sauce. As dessert trifle pudding. Here in Mauritius, I love a Chinese dish: Bol Renverse' (Inverted Bowl). I always called it ''Upside down''. Dessert, I think ice-cream will do.
Q: Coffee or tea?
I love the South African Rooibos and the Mauritian vanilla tea.
Q: What inspired my brand name?
Well, that is easy. I wanted my creations to be connected to my name, so Marinda Creations sounds great to me.
Q: What is your dream vacation?
I have been travelling a lot since the age of 19 years. Lots of time Mauritius to Cape Town, then Switzerland, New Delhi (India) and other nearby Islands. My dream vacation is definitely Venice.
Q: What is your favorite movie?
I think Little House on the Prairie and Tom Sawyer I can watch over and over again. I also love hospital series such as Dr House, Grey Anatomy, Good Doctor etc.
We'd love to hear from you. Leave a comment and tell us which Marinda Creations pattern design you love most!
Thanks, everyone!

The patterns are so cute, I want to learn to knit.
I made the cute little tennis dress, pretty much copied the color scheme in the pattern, and it turned out so cute. I am looking forward to knitting the winter accessories.
I think the Fun dress pattern in both 18” and 14.5” sizes are adorable. Short rows have been my nemesis when I tried to knit socks once most likely due to knitting left handed and can’t quite figure how to change the pattern around to get something other than a big knot. Perhaps some day I will attempt them again. Such cute patterns
I love the 18 inch dolls and the pattern that comes to mind for me is Spring Flowers 18" Doll Clothes Knitting Pattern and Kitty Fun Purse and Backpack 18" Doll Clothes Accessory Knitting Pattern. They both look to be so fun and very child friendly as they are both things that little girls would love as they are clothes and accessories that little girls most likely would have. I have been sewing doll clothes for my nieces and friends daughters and grand daughters for a while now and really like Marinda’s take on doll clothes. I must say though that it is very difficult to pick just one pattern as they all seem like they would all be so much fun to complete and have young girls enjoy!!
I’ve been following Marinda for about 10 years now. Her patterns always gave me a new challenge and broadened my knitting skills. I was always able to contact her for help. I love all her patterns but the dresses/outfits with hats are at the top of my loves. Thank you for the knitting journey. You helped put smiles on my granddaughters faces whenever I knitted one of your outfits for them. Thank you again!
I like the cardigan best and if I knitted I’d want to make that. Dolls who live in the climate we have here definitely need to be able to put on and take off layers.
Seaside Summer is my favorite, but it was a tricky pattern to knit (skirt and bag). I do like the outcome!
You have adorable patterns. Wish I was a better knitter!
i have knitted several of your pattern and just like the other knitters, i also can not decide of a favorite pattern. i do like the lyrical dress and other cheerful dresses with a little twist. All of your patterns are fun to knit, have clear directions and they fit so well.
What a great inspiration. Love Springtime dress and hat.
Cute patterns. My favorite is Spring Flowers 18" Doll Clothes Knitting Pattern
I don’t yet knit or crochet, but I love the design of the back to Africa dress! That’s so cool!
My favorite pattern is the Back to Africa dress, I would like to see this in the 14.5 inch doll size too. I noticed the textures you use too in your patterns that make them very attractive and different from other knit pattern makers.
I love all the sweaters. My last name is Winters and I live in Minnesota. I love to knit especially fancy stitches. Your designs are just what I need and are a real asset to all doll lovers. Thank you.
As one of Marinda’s test knitters I have made most of her patterns. I couldn’t pick a favorite, they are all great! There are patterns for a wide variety of doll sizes, something for everyone.
I love the kitty fun purse and backpack!
I like the hopscotch playsuit for the wee 8inch doll
I have not locked on to one pattern. THere are so many with details to study first. I enjoy the way you have inclued texture in your designs. Often Doll knits are flat and only the outline of a particular sweater, dress or scarf. Your designs are more fanciful in the use of stitch texture. Thank you.
I love the knitting patterns and am looking forward to the day when I can just sit and knit for days. The patterns are so nice! I wonder if you have a book of your patterns?
I love the purple cardigan and especially the hat cocked to one side. Would be delightful to dress one of my dolls in that outfit.
Chordata Cardigan & Beanies.. I’m in process of using up 4 totes of often single skein yarn and doll patterns are a great way to use it. All the dolls will need sweaters and beanies for this cold Alaskan winter!
I’m just learning to knit and hope that some day I’m experienced enough that I can make the Chordata Cardigans & Beanies pattern!
Your creations are fabulous! I enjoy sewing, knitting, and crocheting. I like to make things for my children, nieces, and nephews.
I do not knit but the Kitty Backpack and Purse looks really fun!
I love your the Chordata Cardigan & Beanies. Alas, I do not knit, but i have enough other fibre arts and sewing skills that I am willing for forego that one. I do crochet. I’d love to see a pattern in crochet or embroidery if you enjoy doing so. What wonderful experiences you have from living in 2 countries and traveling. I wonder if we should have a Pixie Faire or Sewing with Cinnamon channel or chat to share special recipes and enjoy flavors from our international community.
The patterns are so cute I wish I could knit or crochet. Some time I buy crochet patterns for my granddaughter, though
How adorable is the Fairyland 8" Baby Doll Clothes pattern!
I am so looking forward to getting some of your patterns, hadn’t noticed them before. I love to knit and am excited to make some of your 18" doll patterns. I’ve knit for about 62 years now and always like to try something new, if you need a test knitter I’d be happy to help.
I especially like the Fun Dress patterns.
The Kitty Fun purse & backpack is my favorite one.
So many lovely creations. I believe my favorite is the Seaside Summer collection; such cute pieces to knit.
The cardigan and beanies is really cute
I love all these patterns. Its very difficult to choose just one favourite.
The Cordata cardigan is my favorite – this is on my “to do” list.
I like the Fun Dress pattern, and the patterns for the 8" baby dolls.
I like the Chordata Cardigan! I also like that these designs include 14.5 inch dolls and 18 inch dolls!
Love the sweater and beret set. I have knit several sweaters, capes and hats for AGDs and Bitty Babies.
Love the Chordata! I own the pattern, and have it on my winter knitting list! Your patterns are lovely, and I appreciate the range of sizes!
I have been following you for over 10 years and have all of your patterns. Obviously I love them and look forward to more!
I just found these patterns so do not have a favorite yet. I will be trying these out.
Knitted outfits for 14-15 inch dolls are hard to find. Appreciate Marinda’s.
I want to learn to knit and crochet. The sweaters are gorgeous!
I like the Cordata cardigans .
Such cute patterns – I think the one I like the most is the Crisp Fall pattern.
So interesting reading and seeing the face behind your creations. Well done, I have knitted lots of your patterns over the past two years, so much fun keep them coming.
I like all the sweater patterns. Handmade sweaters have gone out of vogue due to mass production so it is nice to knit these, bringing back warm memories of when I was young. Thank you for sharing your talent.
Love Chordata! Makes me feel snuggly just looking at the pattern.
I have done some knitting for 18" dolls and the results have been adorable. I LOVE your patterns! I especially like the Chordata Cardigan & Beanies and Classy Hats. But now I’ve just noticed the Kitty Backpack and Purse. My granddaughter would be over the moon. Who am I kidding? I can’t pick just one.
I LOVE Rindy! Do you need test knitters? I’m in!

I would loved to have all this creativity in the doll’s patterns when my girls were young. Now I use these ideas for my grandchildren.
