Sewing A Themed Wardrobe: It's Showtime! Part Five

Now let's take a look at all the details for creating the different dress-up looks shown in the video!

Start with plain solid base. Could be a dress like the Versatile Reversible Tunic, leotard (ours is made from the Free Swimsuit pattern), or tank top and leggings.

• Use the doll’s waist circumference as a guide for the size to cut the lace. Take this measurement over the base garment. Then measure along the bound edge of the lace (not the free edge). Cut trim 2 to 3 times as long as the waist measure- ment. Center on the lace and zigzag along the lace binding to apply.
• Tie lace overlay around the shoulders to create a lacy cape.

• Use vintage jewelry as accents. Fun clip-on ear- rings and brooches can often be found at yard sales and thrift shops.
• Tie the lace around the waist as a skirt overlay and add a clip on earring at the center front neck- line.

Fringe can be done in the same way as the lace, or you can simply use a safety pin or sew on a snap for a closure. The safety pin allows for slight adjustments of the length. You may need to add seam sealant or stitching to prevent raveling at the ends of the fringe.

• Drape two pieces across the body like two sash- es and add a piece of jewelry at the cross point.

Head bands can be made quickly from lace or elastic. This can be tied or sewn to fit your doll’s head.

• Add a piece of jewelry to the headband. You can buy beaded trim that can be cut to a long neck- lace length and secured at the ends. This one has thread wrapped around and tied securely. Add a couple of fringe “skirts”.
