Heavyweight Fabrics - Vegan Leather

Hi Everyone! In part 2 we go deep into the world of sewing with vegan leather - yay! Vegan leather is really just the new trendy term for any faux leather type product including faux leather, vinyl, pleather, pvc leather, etc. When choosing these fabrics look for something lightweight and fabric backed - that type will be the easiest to sew with and work well for these smaller scale pieces.

Are you ready? Let's go...

In the video posted below, I share with you an in-depth look at the supplies and tools I recommend, share sewing tips, and demonstrate several methods for successfully sewing with vegan leather. I hope this will encourage and inspire you to break out of your comfort zone and sew with these beautiful fabrics!

    Resources:

Depending on where you live, some types of fabrics may be easier to find than others. For doll size projects you can also check discount stores for jackets or skirts that can work well for your projects too! The nice thing about these finds is that they usually have coordinating linings included! If you like to shop online, check out these sources for specialty fabrics and the tools I recommend:

    Week One task:

    • Now it's time to practice! If this is your first try with vegan leather, I'd suggest something simple like the Aviator or Piccadilly Skirt.
    • This is in last weeks post as well, but. in case you missed it... Familiarize yourself with the techniques shown by Melinda in the video posted below:

use a leader scrap when starting to sew, clip and use it as an ender. no more trimming long threads and you have something to pull with, if you need it.

While watching the video with Melinda explaining how to get the seam allowances to lay flat, it would have been more beneficial to me to see the demonstrated clipped, hammered, and graded one compared to what it would look like when not done. It would have been nice to see the collars especially. How do you get the curve to be smooth? Even after clipping, I still get flat spots instead of a smooth curve.

Great demonstration, the wax paper really did the trick on the cut out leather, and you could hear the joy in your voice that it worked out so well, lol.
    Love these videos, thanks Cinnamon!

The video for Vegan Fabrics (Heavy Fabrics) is the same as Part One. Both are the Overview Video.

I also have been having problems with the “SWC Bonuses” page. I have emailed several times to PF Support and they don’t know how to fix the situation so they just send the link to my email. That means it never gets to the “My Account” page in case something were to happen to my computer. I am Missing “Fabric Manipulation” even though I checked several times a week. I also have not seen the “Elastic” one so far. When are the bonuses usually posted during the month?
