Heavyweight Fabrics - Microsuede Tiny Waistbands, Collars, and Corners

Hi Everyone! In part 3 we take a closer look at sewing with Microsuede Fabrics! This fabric sews very similarly to the vegan leather, so be sure to look back at the prior video for a more in-depth look at general sewing tips. For this lesson, we are going to be looking at sewing those tiny waistbands and collars with even stitching and smooth corners.

Are you ready? Let's go...

In the video posted below, I share with you an overview supplies and tools I recommend, share sewing tips, and demonstrate several specific examples using the microsuede fabric.

Pattern Overview:

Liberty Jane Piccadilly Skirt

Liberty Jane Steam Jacket

Liberty Jane Bomber Jacket

Liberty Jane Aviator Jacket

    Resources:

Depending on where you live, some types of fabrics may be easier to find than others. For doll size projects you can also check discount stores for jackets or skirts that can work well for your projects too! The nice thing about these finds is that they usually have coordinating linings included! If you like to shop online, check out these sources for specialty fabrics and the tools I recommend:

    • Girl Charlee - This is a great source for Vegan Leather - this is the same product we sourced for the pixie packs, comes in lots of colors!
    • Microsuede Fabric - Several Varieties available at JoAnn Fabrics.
    • Double-Sided Quilters Tape or basting Tape  1/8" width - Amazon
    • Clover Wonder Clips - Amazon
    • Acrylic Ruler -  Amazon
    • 28mm Rotary Cutter - Amazon
    • Non-Stick Presser Foot - Low Shank Machines
    • Roller Presser Foot - Low Shank Machines

    Week One task:

    • Now it's time to practice! If this is your first try with microsuede, I'd suggest something simple like the Piccadilly Skirt.

Next Tuesday - Part 3: Sewing with fur!

I can not save “Tiny waistbands Collars and Corners” to my laptop. I can view it. I have saved the prior videos. Does anyone know why this one can not be saved to my laptop?

Diana, I saw you had trouble finding the 5" zipper. There is a zipper seller on Etsy who carries the 4 and 5 inch zippers for the jacket patterns. They come in awesome colors and ship super fast. Most of the supplies in the patterns such as buttons, zippers, velcro, etc is readily available on Etsy.

Finding a 5 inch zipper for biker jacket was very hard ended up having to cut a larger one down. Something I have never done for separating zipper. When we work with fur in Part 3 what pattern will you be using?
