It is important that patterns include the finished garment measurements so that if necessary, adjustments or changes can be made to suit the users desired outcome as they work on each section of construction. To achieve success, clear step by step instructions are required along with accompanying diagrams or pictures, to guide the maker through the construction process with satisfactory results. If the guidelines are clear and informative, no matter how challenging the task may have been, the successful completion of the final product will give the maker a sense of accomplishment and pride.

As an experienced sewer, the supply list, cutting instructions, good instructions, and accurate sizing and marking on pattern pieces are important. What frustrates me is when steps of a pattern are out of order. i also get frustrated when, from the instructions, I can’t visualize how the pieces of the item are supposed to go together. That happened to me with one pattern I got from Pixie Faire. Had I understood that aspect of the pattern, I wouldn’t have chosen a bright colorful fleece for what turned out to be a hidden lining. And on that pattern, I couldn’t find the kind of zipper that was called for. So a good supply list is also important.

The most important/useful feature on a pattern are the finished garment measurements! I have had/used a lot of different patterns and maybe two of them have had the finished measurements on the back. There is a big difference between your body measurements, the pattern measurements, and the finished garment measurements.

The most important\useful feature or element in a pattern is a pattern with an accurate fit. If the graphics for the pattern pieces are not accurate you’re already setting up failure for the sewist. Of course, I will never say that you can forget concise instructions, or leave out the gorgeous pictures. Many times the instructions along with great photos of each step has helped me gain more confidence. thanks ;)

There’s many important parts to a pdf pattern. The scale needs to be correct, the pieces should be clearly marked with seam & grain lines, notches, pattern name or number. The pieces should fit together well. Instructions and pictures need to be clear. The written instructions are a great added bonus. What would be a nice added feature would be a picture of the item on the list of supplies so you know what you are making. Love Pixie Faire!!! BTW.

First of all I am truly happy for PDF patterns, because what would I have done the last several months but wait on the mail and the selection would have been minimal. I am like many others videos or pictures are helpful to me as I also am a sight learner but the instructions are also very important. I am not one to strike off on my own knowledge I always think I might miss a hint or clever way of doing that I may not have known. I do wish that every time I sew a garment that it would fit the doll I planned for but that doesn’t always work out, usually they will fit someone in my collection of dolls. The wool coat fit a Journey Girl Doll with her clothes on and that is what I wanted. I don’t know how that could be fixed unless the patterns came out for a chunky AG or a slim AG. Mine are all older dolls so that probably accounts for the difference. I really love the patterns and I’ll figure out a little ease in the pattern when I make the next coat. Thank You for all you do and I appreciate all of your classes. I especially like the sew alongs. Happy New Year to ALL.
