Love the details of the Highlands outfits. As always, Gennie does a wonderful job with her patterns.
As a third generation Canadian of mixed European heritage, our cultural traditions included lots of food! Veraniki, holubschi, borscht and of course baking of an immense variety!! Our families carry on some portion of these traditions and over the years other cultures have added to the mix! I love the fact that people of other cultures have shared their traditions in these posts. Very interesting.

My interest in Scottish culture began when my youngest daughter went to a high school where the mascot was the Highlanders. First she began Highland dancing and then she learned to play the bagpipes. I really enjoyed sewing various dance costumes and I learned how to make a traditional kilt which requires 9 yards of fabric and arranging the pleats so they replicate the appearance of the plaid design as it appeared on the bolt. After graduation she attended a college where played the bagpipes for The fighting Scots. The capstone of this experience was a trip to Scotland to deliver her to a university that she attended for a semester. She bought home 9 yards of the school plaid wool so that I could make another kilt. She later attended graduate school at another university where the mascot was the fighting Scots and played the bagpipes for various activities. I was so excited to see that the graduate regalia included a lovely traditional tam that is black trimmed with the school plaid. Lately she has led the family Scandinavian culture so II would like to see more Scandinavian patterns.

The cultural event I enjoy the most occurs once a year. My sister lives in Holland Michigan. In the spring time the city puts on A Tulip festival. Thousands of tulips have been planted curbside all through the residential areas the parks and the downtown business district. There are craft vendors selling beautiful work and and food. It culminates in a big parade with bands and horses and the featured Kloppen Dancers dancing in full Dutch costume and wooden shoes. This festival draws people from all over the world.

I take part in many cultural activities throughout the year as I live in an area known for the diverse cultures. We have the Spanish Fiesta as well as Cinco de Mayo March 17 brings our Irish out to play and it continues through the year with many nationalities featured throughout the year. We have had many dragon dances, And of course our favorite time is Independence Day July 4th when you see many cultural flags on shirts while all participate in the founding of this wonderful country. Pixie Fairie does a great job of meeting most sewing wants and needs with many talented people providing new and interesting patterns. I’d like to see monthly cultural patterns periodically. ie Scottish a blurb about Scottish history surrounding a certain outfit then either part of the outfit is featured as the free item, or throughout the month you can get most of the outfit such as kilt one week, slippers next etc You guys do amazingly well not a lot of improvement to be needed

My husband spent 2 years in Scotland and Ireland on a church mission. He always wanted a kilt, but passed away from cancer before we were able to get one for him. This kilt pattern is so cute and will be a great outfit for my 7 granddaughters. We honor him with his favorite traditional meal of corned beef and all of the trimmings—twice a year. and we named our son after the first town he lived in. Our friends from Scotland got us hooked on Outlander and I see you have a dress pattern appropriate for the time period. I recently found my biological mother and brothers and have learned they lived in Hawaii and some of the Polynesian islands. I see that you already have grass skirts and dresses from the islands.
