Sewing A Themed Wardrobe Winter Sports: DIY Foam Hemlet

This week we have a crafty project for you! We’ve got our ski jacket and our adorable Snoveralls, now all we need is a winter sports helmet! I’m going to demonstrate how to make one for your doll using foam sheets - you heard me right, foam sheets!

There’s a whole line of pattern designs on Pixie Faire from Koski Creations that feature this technique. It’s pretty genius, if you ask me! I’ve seen set’s like this for sale for upwards of $50, but a foam sheet counts just a few dollars and the other supplies you might already have on hand too! So... Let’s get started!

Supplies needed:

  • 5 or 6mm foam sheet
  • 2mm foam sheet (12” length needed)
  • craft knife
  • rubber cement glue
  • a heat gun, iron, or blowdryer
  • craft paint
  • a sealer like Mod Podge
  • a piece of ribbon
  • a small 1/2" or 3/8" parachute buckle
  • You’ll also need a hard round ball or something like a snow globe, roughly the size of the dolls head. The foam balls we used in the Miniature Millinery Molded Felt Hat work perfect! This will be used for shaping the foam.
