Sewing A Themed Wardrobe 1980s Style: Jelly Flats DIY Craft Along!

Hi Everyone! In Part 3 we switch gears a bit and take a look at something a bit more crafty! Shari is joining us with a fun new pattern and members-only full video tutorial!

Everyone who grew up in the 80s remembers those trendy bright plastic shoes we called jellies. Although predecessors to these shoes probably originated in the late 50s or early 60s, it wasn't until the 1982 World's Fair in Knoxville, Tennessee the jelly craze took off. The 80s was totally into all things bright and synthetic and jelly shoes At first, although they were cheap to produce, their high price tag made them chic to wear. Soon high demand and brand knock-offs brought prices down to as low as $1 a pair and kids were buying them in every color and style under the sun.

This week, I am going to show you how to make a doll size version of the totally awesome jellies with a handful of glitter hot glue sticks.

Are you ready? Grab your pattern and follow along in the video posted below!

Can I use the code for that month to pick it up. Or did I loose that code because I have all the other classes.
    Thank you

FYI… be sure to use 100% SILICONE… no latex or acrylic. The silicone works much differently than other types of caulk. Also, use the 2 mm thick craft foam… didn’t realize foam sheets came it other thicknesses. Learn something new every day. :O)

Maureen, yes this technique could be used for any number of things. You can make a mold out of virtually anything. I would expect just about any pattern that uses craft foam could be adapted. :O)

Milicia, I purchased my silicone at Walmart in the paint section. It is fairly inexpensive… about $4 a tube if I remember right.

I got the pattern and I’m glad you did this tutorial because I was looking for silicon casting resin. I found something at Hobby lobby but It is pricey even with 40% off coupon. I was looking for something that can withstand high temperature and what I found was good up to 400* F. Still I’m reluctant to do this, I’ll just have to be brave. I don’t know how much would silicon tube cost, or where to find it, but I can see how It can go a long way. I’ll have to look for it at Lowe’s. Unless I can order it on Amazon. Thank you for the tutorial :)
