I sew for my granddaughter’s doll and mostly sew clothes of the 2000’s. But it would be fun to have one from a different era. I would like to see a pattern for a doll that a beginning seamstress, aged 8, could sew.

As a former historical clothing instructor, I don’t know that I can list a favorite era, but right now I am in the process of creating dolls of my parents as a kind of family history present to myself. They were about 10 years old in the mid 1930s. I would love to see a “Jughead” cap like the one from the comic strip, complete with jewels. My dad had one.

I have always liked dresses that looks feminine and did not cling to the body. For me it is not the shape on show but the hint of whats beneath. Having said that the roaring twenties offers both with just that bit of razz to help jazz things up. A whole wardrobe could be made of these styles and not hint of being from the same time period. The head gear would give it away so I would stay clear of this, but otherwise anything goes!
