How to Make a Doll-Sized Scrunchie

How to Make a Doll-Sized Scrunchie

We've put together this super quick and easy tutorial to make your own doll-sized scrunchie! This adorable hair accessory is perfect for recreating your favorite '80s look or capturing the cool-girl look with modern styling.

How to Make a Doll-Sized Scrunchie

Scrunchie Making Supplies:

  • One 5-inch piece of 1/8" Wide elastic
  • One piece of knit or woven fabric, cut to 1.5" x 15"
  • Matching thread
  • Safety pins, or your preferred loop turning tool

How to Make a Doll-Sized Scrunchie

Step 1: Cut out your strip of fabric to the above measurements. Press the fabric if needed.

Step 2: Fold the strip in half lengthwise and pin.

Step 3: Sew along the length of the fabric with 1/4" seam allowance. Trim seam allowance close to stitching line being very careful not to clip through the stitching.

Step 4: To turn the strip right-sides-out, pin a safety pin to one edge and feed it through the tube of fabric. When the safety pin reaches the other end of the tube, the fabric can be pulled right-sides-out.

Step 5: Now that the scrunchie fabric is right-sides-out, attach a safety pin to one end of the 5-inch piece of elastic.

Step 6: Use the safety pin the feed the elastic through the fabric tube. Be sure to pin the end of the elastic to the fabric edge so it doesn't get lost inside.

Step 7: Pull both ends of the elastic and tie in a knot. (The pins in the above photo are simply holding things in place for visibility.)

Step 8: Feed the tied elastic back into the fabric. At the fabric opening, pull one edge of the fabric over the other, letting the raw edge of the fabric roll or fold over itself to create a clean edge. Sew a straight line over this fabric opening to secure.

My favourite hair accessory is a no-slip elastic. My hair is super fine and below my waist in length. I French braid it every day to keep it out of my eyes with all the flyaways and need an elastic that is gentle on my hair but grippy enough to hold the braid

My favorite hair accessory is a hairbow. I work with special needs children, so I usually pull my long hair back and add a hair bow, I make a lot of them from leftover fabric to match an outfit.

My favorite hair accessory has to be headbands. Because I tend to have very short and sometimes frizzy hair in the front, a headband keeps everything out of my face and smooths down certain wayward strands. I also think headbands complete certain outfits. ;D
