We've put together this super quick and easy tutorial to make your own doll-sized scrunchie! This adorable hair accessory is perfect for recreating your favorite '80s look or capturing the cool-girl look with modern styling.
Scrunchie Making Supplies:
Step 1: Cut out your strip of fabric to the above measurements. Press the fabric if needed.
Step 2: Fold the strip in half lengthwise and pin.
Step 3: Sew along the length of the fabric with 1/4" seam allowance. Trim seam allowance close to stitching line being very careful not to clip through the stitching.
Step 4: To turn the strip right-sides-out, pin a safety pin to one edge and feed it through the tube of fabric. When the safety pin reaches the other end of the tube, the fabric can be pulled right-sides-out.
Step 5: Now that the scrunchie fabric is right-sides-out, attach a safety pin to one end of the 5-inch piece of elastic.
Step 6: Use the safety pin the feed the elastic through the fabric tube. Be sure to pin the end of the elastic to the fabric edge so it doesn't get lost inside.
Step 7: Pull both ends of the elastic and tie in a knot. (The pins in the above photo are simply holding things in place for visibility.)
Step 8: Feed the tied elastic back into the fabric. At the fabric opening, pull one edge of the fabric over the other, letting the raw edge of the fabric roll or fold over itself to create a clean edge. Sew a straight line over this fabric opening to secure.

My favorite hair accessory is an elastic band/hair holder. They keep my hair out of my face when I’m outside working so I don’t keep touching my hair with my dirty hands.
Most days I use a headband or scrunchie to keep hair out of way when doimg chores.

Short hair myself, but love the bows on little girls.
Most days I use a hair clip to keep my hair out of my face. Since it is so hot here in Texas, I am also pulling my hair into a pony tail with a fat stretchy elastic band. My girls wore lots of scrunchies back in the 80’s. They would leave them on the door knobs all over the house.
I use headbands and barrettes. My oldest granddaughter loves barrettes and scrunchies . Thanks for the doll scrunchie tutorial her dolls can have matching scrunchies
I love wooden hair combs and sticks. All the different woods give each one it’s own personality. I also have some carved ones—practicality with art and beauty!

Back in the 80s I had waist length hair and wore it in a different way each day for school. Combs, barrettes, and holders of all types were collected and used. I had bandanas in every color imaginable and wore them folded up and twisted and tied into a headband with the tie on top like a bow. I do this with my dolls as well, using fabrics and toole, which is adorable and makes a lovely poofy bow. I still wear scrunchies all the time and sometimes my dolls share mine. Lol! How great to have this wonderful tutorial for doll sized scrunchies. I won’t have to share mine anymore!
