"Hi! My name is Kathleen Gallaher, and I’m the designer behind Oh Sew Kat! Designs. I live in Virginia with my husband of 33 years. We met when we were both officers in the Marine Corps and we are both federal workers still serving the Corps. I currently teach Professional Communication (writing) to young officers. We are newly empty nested- our oldest son is a Naval Officer, our middle son is an Experiential Content Producer, and our daughter is a recent engineering graduate of NC State.
I have always been a crafter. I learned to sew from my mother (who never bought a Halloween costume from the store in her life!) and when my husband was on deployment, I bought myself a fancy sewing machine and made my one year old son some rompers. I sewed for him a lot but when the second son came along, I didn’t have the time.
Fast forward to my daughter - and her obsession with all things American Girl, and suddenly I was back at it. When my daughter started with American Girl, there were not any sewing patterns on the market. As I made her outfits, I tried to duplicate them in doll scale. Some were more successful than others. As she aged out of dolls, I took the Pixie Faire pattern course and the rest is history and began my pattern line.
The mission behind Oh Sew Kat! is sewing love, one stitch at a time. My pattern line is developed as much to create a love of sewing as it is to create doll clothes. The patterns and styles are simple to sew, and provide lots of mix and match options. They are very basic and clearly explained, so they are perfect for younger sewists who are just getting started."
Inquiring Minds Want To Know:
Q: What inspired your brand name?
When I was trying to decide what to name my brand, I knew I wanted something short, catchy, easy to spell and remember, while still representing me and what I do.
Q: What’s your favorite sewing tip?
Press every seam. I learned this in a quilting class, and I feel that taking the time to do that has really helped the overall look of my sewing projects. Now, it’s second nature to turn on my iron before I turn on my sewing machine.
Q: Is there a new hobby, craft, or skill you’d like to learn?
I’ve always wanted to learn how to play the piano. I started lessons when my kids were taking them, but as a busy mom of three it just got to be too much. Now that I have a little more white space in my life, maybe it’s time to try again.
Q: Who is your favorite doll?
My favorite doll is still my first one. Nellie - the little Irish orphan. I love her unique hair and cute freckles.
Q: What’s your favorite flower or plant?
My favorite flower is the sunflower!
We'd love to hear from you. Leave a comment and tell us which Oh Sew Kat design pattern you love most!
Thanks, everyone!
The Pixie Faire Team
My favorite is the school bell blouse—I appreciated the options for the blouse plus more options by choosing a skirt or pants. I also appreciate that Kat keeps all doll sizes in mind as I do as well—having baby dolls through 18" dolls and several in between.
Had a very hard time choosing One.
My first pick is JumpingJack.
After raising three boys finally have time to do some things I enjoy. Sewing being one and gardening the second. Enjoyed growing sunflowers for the first time this past season!
I love the simplicity of the patterns and the fact that they are offered for different sizes of dolls, although the 18" will always be my favorite. I love the school dance dress and the jumping jack jumper. The jumper reminds me of a vintage pattern I have for little girls.
So many adorable patterns, but I really like the Party Dress for the 18 in doll.
I love the Sugar and Spice pattern for the Wellie Wishers. I have made them for all four of my granddaughters. I love how versatile and yet how simple they are. Thank you!!

I love Sugar n Spice & Everything Nice. So many possibilities!
I like several of the outfits—but, I esp. like the jumper.
Your school dress with that adorable buckle along with your fabric choices is absolutely stunning. I would definitely wear that! And I can’t wait to make one for my AG doll “Pretty”. She has the black mary janes that will go perfectly with her new school dress. Thank you.
Cute dress

I like the play around pants pattern and that it’s offered in all sizes. Clever designs.
Classic pattern! Love it!
I love and have several of Kathleen’s pattern. I have made a lot of these patterns for AGD Bitty Baby and Maplelea dolls . Patterns are easy to do and using different fabrics makes the same dress or outfit look totally different.
These are the best patterns – super easy to sew up and really easy to take on and off for the kids. I made some for a friend and ended up making more for her girlfriends. I even had a preschool ask me to make them for their school since they are so easy for the little ones to dress the dolls themselves. Love love love them!
I think the princess cut dress is clever with the little belt trim!
OhSewKat patterns are my absolute “Go To” patterns when sewing for 18 inch dolls. The directions are so easy to follow. I have communicated with the designer many times and she is so helpful and great about getting back to you in a timely manner. Her newsletters and blog are chock full of pattern hacks and she provides a lot of examples for creative ideas. My favorite pattern is the Easy Up Jumper, but I actually own all of her patterns in a few different sizes!
Halter Alls is the winner! A fun easy pattern that requires a small amout of fabric.
I love Kat’s Sixth Grade Skirt & Popsicle Top, great mix and match pieces and easy to sew and embellish
Love the selection! Your work is inspiring. I have been doing a lot of sewing for my granddaughter’s Our Generation dolls.
My favorite Oh Sew Kat pattern is Bloomer Buddies. I have made it up several times. I love the simplicity of making up her designs; they always work up great. You can dress them up by adding trims. Thanks for showcasing her designs!
My favorite pattern of yours is the Peasant Time Party Dress! My dolls would look so cute in it.
Love the colors
I really love the Sunshine Dress. And I love that these patterns use so many fun different patterns of fabric so that you can use scraps if needed. And I love that there are so many patterns for the Disney Dolls, since my daughter JUST got one of those and I was so bummed they were a different size than 18" dolls.
Decisions, decisions – I just love the creativity of the various designers. If I must chose one, the ‘school dance’ dress is adorable.
I like the variability of patterns, they are all beautiful
I love it when so many different sizes/shaped dolls can have the same cute outfit, Back in the day whole families wore the same outfit just sized down from Mom to daughter, even Dad and son shirts matching the ladies were popular.

Humm. I like the School Dance forr14" dolls. Versatile. But I also like Sunshine and Sugar and Spice for the same reason. I wonder if they would fit my RRFF. Right now I’m mostly sewing for her and for the Siblies and of course my beloved Sashas.
I like the easy up jumper because it’s so easy for little fingers to dress their doll.
I like the style of the dance dress & the mix of checks & solid colours.

Thank you for the giveaway! I love your designs! The Sixth Grade skirt is so cute and the Peasant Party Dress is amazing!
I really like the School Dance pattern as the front panel invites a focus fabric or embroidery design, co ordinating fabrics, or a plaid, with the front panel cut on the bias for a contrast look.
