"Hello, fellow doll clothes makers! I’m Heidi Mittiga (Flossie Potter Patterns). Back in the 1990s, my daughter would pore over the doll catalogs and wish for all the outfits that were displayed in the photos. Money was tight, so I started copying them for her. I even sold a few. I came up with an idea to make doll clothes patterns that represented women of history, but it would be a long time before anyone would be able to turn an idea into a computerized pattern and sell it to seamstresses around the world.
My daughter grew up and moved on, but my idea never left. I did alterations for over a decade, and then came another daughter who also loved dolls. This time, the internet was ready. My first PDF pattern was Susan B. Anthony, and now I have over 80 patterns listed on Pixie Faire!"
Inquiring Minds Want To Know:
Q: What is your favorite sewing tip?
Whenever I sew sleeves into the armscyes, I sew with the bodice on top of the sleeve. It took me a long time to come up with this way to minimize unwanted tucks in the bodice fabric that I wouldn’t notice until the sleeve was in!
Q: Is there a new hobby, craft, or skill you’d like to learn?
Yes. I have always wanted to learn tatting. My grandma could tat, and it looked like so much fun. I’m trying!
Q: If you were to relax by the water, would you prefer the ocean waves, a babbling brook, or a rushing waterfall?
Hands down, I’d prefer the babbling brook. That would mean that I’m in the woods, and I love the woods. (I’ve been to the ocean in California and to Niagara Falls near home in New York, but they’re both so loud that I can’t even hear myself think. So, give me the babble of a brook!)
Q: What’s your favorite flower or plant?
I love Hollyhocks next to a fence. They’re an old-fashioned flower.
Q: What would you say is the most daring or exciting thing you’ve ever done?
I took SCUBA diving lessons and dove on a wreck.
We'd love to hear from you. Leave a comment and tell us which Flossie Potter Patterns pattern design you love most!
Thanks, everyone!

Flossie Potter patterns have great style across many years. I love the Little 50s Swing Coat because it is like the ones we wore at that time. They were called “toppers” and mine was pink.
So many great patterns! I love the “Sisters” dress pattern, the sleeves are so beautiful!
I love everything. From Victorian times to present. The fringe vest and bell bottoms are so cute. I remember when I used to dress that way!
I haven’t made any of these patterns yet. I look forward to making the cute Jellies outfit for my granddaughters.
I love vintage patterns, especially the bell bottoms!
I own many oh Heidi’s patterns and love all of them! My favorites are the historical patterns and accessories. Heidi’s attention to detail is seen in every design! Perfect fit and excellent directions as well as beautiful illustrations/photos. Heidi is one of my favorite designers.
I love historical costumes!!
I really like the doll sock trio pattern!
Loved jellies for AGD for summertime
I love the vintage patterns. There is so much attention to detail.
Love all these patterns from the early 80’s
Oh my goodness, this new free pattern was a joy to sew and create a new doll look for my granddaughter. I think she’s going to love your collections lots.
Such a cute outfit! I love the Susan b Anthony one the most ❤ your instructors are really clear and detailed 👌
I really love Halter Ego. I have recently come into possession of some vintage guipure lace that I want to use to make up this pattern.
I think this outfit is adorable. My favorite pattern is the hip hugger bell bottom pants. Your patterns are so easy to follow.
I love the variety of your patterns! Could you possibly make some Hopscotch Hills patterns? Thanks!
I like the Jellies pattern. That I remember.
Oh, Heidi! I had to laugh when someone noted (my teenage years) ’60’s patterns as “historical.” Your patterns are so well thought out and easy to follow. The peasant top was made several times and adapted as a nightgown. The classy Ladies’ Club Jacket and 1950’s Pocketbook were reminiscent of Mom’s clothing. How clever the Computer-Friendly Fireplace! How useful the Dance Bag and Scalloped Bag are. These historical patterns also helped me to learn or refine techniques: Betsy Ross shop dress, Bustle Dress, Turn of Century Shirtwaists and Skirt (with its godets!). Susan B. Anthony outfit was a little hard, but kudos to you for such super work on the pattern! Thank you so much and may God bless you richly for sharing your talent!
I love the 1950’s Department Store outfit – reminds e of my childhood.
I like the designs that have a vintage look to them.
I really love so many of her patterns. Her 1950s are some of my favorites!
I love all the Flossie patterns but my favorites are the historical and dresses. I like the Garden Gala A line dress for 18" dolls. I have made a few in the past. My granddaughter and great niece love them all.
I’m just getting into sewing for dolls. Really enjoy all of the patterns.
I like the 1800’s Simple Stitches pattern, I love historical dresses!
I love the 70’s music and clothing. I was born in 1960 and love all her retro patterns. Going to make some bell bottoms very soon. Can’t wait….
I love all the retro patterns.
These clothes are so cute. The bell bottoms remind me of growing up when they were the in thing.
I love the Turn-of-the Century skirt and shirtwaist. They remind me of a picture I have of my great-grandma when she was young at the turn of the last century! Thank you for the giveaway!
I love Flossie Potter’s designs because they look timely. My favorite is Central Park 1904.
I love her retro patterns, especially the ’80’s!
I love retro clothes making! It’s a smile from beginning to end!
Absolutely love the historical costumes. They are a nice challenge.
The new Jellies pattern is adorable! Can’t wait to make it.
I sew for many eras and love all the retro patterns. My favorite is probably the Betsy Ross dress. I also appreciate that the 70s patterns feel realistic instead of costumey.
The old fashioned nightgown is my favorite. I’ve made it twice so far and it turns out really cute!
They are very creative and fit our dolls well. I enjoy making them that it is hard to decide what I like the best. I do enjoy the period costume designs.
Greatly admire the period patterns. As luck would have it, between my daughter and I we own dolls in all of the periods!
The 1950’s design remind me of the dresses I wore in my childhood.
It’s hard to pick a favorite, but TODAY my favorite is the bell bottom pattern.
I have several of Flossie’s patterns. Betsy Ross bundle is my current favorite that I will get next. I am in process of making the sports bag right now, to go with my LJ Track suit which turned out adorable.
Love the “Julie” patterns!
I have 22 Flossie Potter patterns in my pattern collection. They are lovely patterns. Thank you so much.
I love the Ladies Club dress. It is one of my favorites.
I like the historical patterns and those for the 1960’s & 1970’s but the one I use most it the Town and Country Set. I just made up two sets using the pattern but I got the pockets too high ( high pockets?) on one pair of shorts. Oops but my little one won’t care.
I like the bell bottoms with the peasant top.
My favorite are the boys clothes and the historical.
Love the detailed instructions
The big floppy hat is cute!
Ladies Club jacket is a fav, too! Thanks!
I love Flossie Potter Patterns. My favorite is the All Seasons Dress which I have made several using this pattern. It’s a wonderful classic pattern that’s very popular with vintage doll owners.
I enjoy the historical 70’s patterns. Wore those fashions myself. 😂
I love that you have historical patterns that are around the start of the 1900’s, which is Samantha’s era. So many places DON’T have that era for clothing and it’s such a shame because Samantha is my favorite! I can’t sew yet but I really want to learn so I can make clothes for my Samantha.
I’m lucky to have and to have made made many of her patterns. “Turn of the Century Shirtwaists” is one of my – soon to be – favorites. Thank you.
I love the old fashioned nightgown pattern — reminds me of nightgowns from when I’m little. I also want to try the 50s swimsuit. I like that it’s done in woven, not knits!
so talented! I can hardly wait to get a sewing area set up and get started!
I have loved the Duster coat from the first time seeing it
The bellbottoms .. I make them for myself in the 60 .. lol made them out of flower print and now I make them for my great granddaughter for her dolls.
Keep the patterns coming.
Thanks for the new pattern I’m getting this Friday for free.
Love Stary Night! Wish I could knit…
Great job, Heidi.
I love the retro patterns but mostly what I love is how well they fit.
I like the historic and retro patterns. I also like that patterns for 14" dolls are available.
I love the fringed vest and the bell bottoms.
Love the Susan B Anthony pattern!
I absolutely love the old fashioned nightgown pattern! Reminds me of the ones I had as a girl!!
My favorite pattern for nostalgia and cuteness is the 1980s workout set, but my favorite for its design and making is the simple Just For Fun halter and apron pattern.
Love the California Baja pattern!
Love, love, LOVE your cute patterns!
i love ‘the sisters’ dress patterns…
I really enjoy “The Betsy Ross Bundle”
I have some Flossie Potter patterns. They are fun and fun to make.
I have some Flossie Potter patterns. They
Like many of the patterns. No one is the overall favorite.
My favorite pattern that I have made is the Ladies’ Club Dress and accessories. It makes a very pretty dress. I love the Betsy Ross dress though I haven’t made the accessories yet. The pattern that I have that I haven’t made yet is the Jellies for 16” dolls. I just think it’s adorable and Clem would look so cute in it.
Love these patterns, thank you for them all.
I have quite a few of the Flossie Potter patterns for 18 inch dolls. If I had to pick a favorite, it would be the Ladies Club patterns. They make me think of Jackie Kennedy.
My favorite is the Bolero Vest and Gaucho Skirt pattern.
I love the retro patterns. Thanks for sharing your talent!
I have made some of these patterns already. I like them allI. I want to make more of them. I like the 1800 Simple Stitches 18 " dress because of the nice sleeves. I have been sewing for many years. I made lots of outfits and accessories for my granddaughter but now I sewer my great niece. Sewing is a good way to be creative.
I
Love so manyof tgese nkpatterns.
I love any little dress from the fifties. I was in elementary school and wore so many of those patterns. A fitted bodice, short or long sleeves, a gathered or pleated skirt and I am happy. Add a Peter Pan collar, tucking for the bodice, lace or a cumberbun and I am thrilled. I love playing around with your little girl dresses of my childhood.
I love your 1950s era patterns. The dresses from that time were so feminine without being bodycon. I own a couple of them.
I love that your patterns are retro and particularly love the bolero and gaucho skirt one.
I love the workout outfit and the fringed outfit. I had a fringed vest many years ago—so I think my AGs should have one too.
I love the Susan B Anthony pattern. Great and easy to understand instructions. I was very pleased with the final results.
Getting back to sewing after a very difficult school year
Love the Starry Nights cardigan pattern!
I love the clogs.
Back to the 70’s, interesting patterns.

It would be hard to say which pattern is my favorite as I have made so many of the ones I have bought and they always turned out great due to the awesome tutorials and the quality of the pattern.
I love the historical patterns. They are so accurate to each era.
I decided to learn tatting on my vacation later this year! Etsy had a great little starter kit n sale. I look forward to it too!
I LOVE the Baja shirt. My whole family used to wear these while camping [where else?] in Baja. I still wear them. But several other patterns are appealing too such as the bell bottoms and the fringe vest. And who doesn’t love the Dollmark Cards!
