Create Cute Fashion With More Styles From Pinku Jane!

Get To Know Akrista (In Her Own Words)

"Hi, I’m Akrista, the designer behind the brand, Pinku Jane.

My evolution to doll clothes started several years ago on Ebay, designing and sewing boutique clothing for little girls. At the time, I had plenty of space for me to spread out and sew. We ended up downsizing, so I needed to find another creative outlet that wouldn’t require so much space.

Long story short, I went from little girls dresses, to little girls crochet hats and gloves, to clothing for the cutest little doll with big eyes I’d ever seen.

I know Blythe dolls aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, however, with all the customized Blythe dolls out there, she seems to be able to take on whatever personality artists can make her into. And the stock dolls are cute, too."

Inquiring Minds Want To Know:

Q: What inspired your brand name?
Once I owned one doll, I wanted to try to customize them, so I bought a few factory dolls to practice on. And of course they needed a wardrobe, right?! That’s where Pinku Jane comes in. The name is a play off my other Etsy shop, Pinkie Jane - crochet fingerless glove patterns for little girls.

When I first started Pinku Jane, I only offered finished pieces. When I realized I could offer patterns for these cute little divas, I could feed my love of designing on a much tinier scale. Most designs evolve on their own before eventually becoming a pattern. And some pieces will only be one-of-a-kinds because I can’t figure out how to make the pattern simple enough to explain how I got from a-z, sooo, no pattern.

All of my patterns are made in thread sizes ranging from 3 for the whimsical crochet hats, like Curlicue Times 2, to 20 for the Ruffles & Frills Top, and 30 for the cute knee socks in the Sock Wardrobe pattern. Because I absolutely love Audrey Hepburn, the Miss Audrey dress with its cute little petticoat is one of my favorite patterns and one that was designed specifically for Pixie Faire. My second favorite, because I also love Jane Austen, is the Miss Jane dress, with its Bridgerton vibe.

Q: What is your favorite thread tip?
My favorite thread crochet tip, well I actually have a few that I suggest for beginners.

1. When you begin crocheting with thread, start with the thicker threads, either 3 or 5, before moving on to size 10 and then 20. Practicing with thicker threads and gradually reducing the size and hook, will help you get used to and more comfortable with crocheting tiny.

2. If you are new to crocheting, and working with threads in particular, choose lighter color threads. Darker yarns are difficult to see, so dark threads can be even more of a challenge because of their thinness.

3. In conjunction with the color of thread, it’s easier to see thinner threads in the daylight hours or when using a daylight or bright lamp. So beginning with light color threads and having adequate lighting will help you achieve success early on when crocheting with threads.

4. Add a grip to your steel crochet hook. This will help if you are used to the thickness of the larger hooks when crocheting with yarn. You may need to look around before you find a sponge or silicone tube that will fit the smaller hooks, or you may need to figure out a DIY option, like wrapping rubber bands or yarn around the shaft of your hook until it feels more comfortable.

5. Lastly, you may be tempted to hold your thread or hook more tightly when you begin crocheting with thread. This is the opposite of what you should do. Try to consciously relax your hands and loosen your grip on the hook. It may be difficult to do and you may need to really think about what you are doing and how you are holding your hook, however, the more you practice, the easier it will be to relax. This will even help with maintaining the correct tension as you work with thread.

There are a few more, but I’ll leave you with those for now.

Q: Is there a new hobby or skill I would like to learn?
No, not really. I already have too many, lol. I crochet of course. I also sew, draw, paint, write, bake, to name a few. I also have a collection of tools and supplies that go with all of those hobbies. So no, I’m good for now, lol.

Q: What is your favorite flower or plant?
My favorite flower would probably be a tiger lily. I love the different colors and their distinctive shape. My granddaughter gave me a black one a couple years ago and I love seeing it bloom every year.

I enjoyed reading your bio so much, thank you for sharing, allows encouragement for me. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate your tips, very helpful as I’m a novice, although crocheting is something I’ve always wanted to learn. Your patterns are interesting and beautiful, reflective of your multiple talents in the arts, making it impossible to choose a fave. I love Miss Audrey dress & petticoat, as well as Ruffles and Frills, and your variety of hats and socks.Thank you and all best wishes.

I love the attention to detail especially in the little hats. Wonder if they would fit anybody at my house. Love the button front dress. Might that fit a Siblie? I’ve got the socks and the panties in case lightning ever strikes leaving me with the ability to crochet.Meanwhile I admire.

The Audrey dress is adorable. I can only crochet the basic stitches and nothing that small.

Thank you for the crochet tips. I would never have thought to relax the tension in holding thread would be the way to make thread crochet easier. I strangled my fingers and the project when I attempted to crochet an octopus in embroidery thread weight as the pattern called for. I’m going to give it another go with your tip.

I have not mastered the art of crocheting with the tiny threads yet. I’m working on it and hope to master the granny square. Because of that I have not made any of the Pinku Jane patterns yet. I love the Little Miss Jane pattern though. So cute!

These little outfits and patterns are very sweet. I appreciate being introduced to Blythe dolls with Akrista’s vision for them.
They are precious and make me think of my young niece who would like their sweet faces. I don’t have a lot of knowledge or skills in the crochet world, but this was very inspiring. Lots of great pointers for venturing further into crochet. Thank you Akrista! You are a very talented artist.

I love the Miss Audrey dress; the color is beautiful. I’ve just learned how to crochet, and I don’t know if I can make such small clothes, but I’m willing to give a try.

Akrista is a very talented lady. I have purchased her patterns for a few years now and she is very accommodating if you have a specific doll you would like a pattern for. She is willing to go the extra mile to help you to make that special clothing item for your special dolly. She is a very special lady and I feel very privileged to know her and to have her as a friend. Her patterns are definitely a must have and you will get much enjoyment and if you need help she is willing to do that little extra if you get stuck or stumped in completing your pattern. She is always willing to accommodate! Such a great lady!!

Adorable! Although I do not have the Blythe dolls, I do have the Siblies, and since increasing my crochet skills beyond just the basic is on my to do list, these are inspiring! I love the Miss Audrey of course, but also am drawn to the Ruffles and Frills dress/top, and can see it on my Siblies! Thanks for featuring this lovely artist; I had not seen her work before, and I am glad for the introduction!

Your little clothes pattern for the 12" doll are adorable, but as I don’t have this doll and have never tried crochet that small, I can’t really pick a favorite pattern. All the best.
