Hi everyone,
On Friday (January 22nd, 2016) we'll publish a new pattern for free as special one-day only event rather than having the "normal" Freebie Friday voting.
This week we're featuring the work of Shari Fuller from Thimbles and Acorns in celebration of her 4th year in pattern publishing.
More About Shari Fuller and Thimbes And Acorns, (in her own words).
My grandma gave me my first sewing lesson when I was about eight years old. I had been fascinated with her sewing for as long as I could remember and was so excited when she gave me a doll pattern and sent me to her sewing closet to pick out just the right fabric for my first project.
Sewing was a way for me to connect with my grandma, and although she may not have realized it at the time, this gift she gave me helped me become a better student. History became more exciting as I became captivated by the dynamic fashions through the ages. This is what Thimbles and Acorns is all about; building relationships and encouraging learning.
This month, I am celebrating my 4th anniversary publishing historical doll patterns by giving away a brand new pattern. Thanks to all of you for making this last year so successful, I am looking forward to seeing what this next year brings!
Here is more information about the pattern:
Sarah Hale Multi-Size Pattern: Designed To Fit American Girl® Dolls and A-Girl-For-All-Time® Dolls. This 1830s dress features a crossed pleated bodice that is set in a narrow waistband. Fitted upper sleeves drop gracefully from the fashionably low shoulder lines. A full lower sleeve spills from the pleated edging of the upper sleeve and fastens at the wrist with a snapped cuff. The full skirt is pleated at the front and gathered in the back. The dress closes in the back with three buttons along the bodice and a snap at the waistband. Our 1830-01 Gigot Sleeve Dress and 1830-02 Sarah Hale Dress patterns are part of our Design-ables series which means you can mix and match the sleeves, bodices, and skirts to create your own uniquely-styled dress. Watch for Pattern 1830-03 Beret Sleeve Dress pattern to add even more options to your design palette.
This 1830s era dress is named after a remarkable woman named Sarah Hale. While almost everyone is familiar with the nursery rhyme, Mary Had a Little Lamb, few people know it was written and published by Sara in 1830. Sarah made her greatest impact, however, as the editor of Godey’s Ladies Book as a writer and advocate for the education of women and many other women’s issues.
Congratulate Shari With Us!

Congratulations, Shari! I love your patterns. I want to make all of them but my favorites are the Laura, Mary and Carrie Ingles since I read all the “Little House” books when I was young. Laura was my kind of girl. I am also thinking of making a “Dickens Faire” dress to sell at our annual Victorian Christmas Faire this year. Best wishes!
Happy 4th Anniversary, Shari! I simply adore your Thimbles & Acorns line of patterns and I am always eager to browse your new offerings on Pixie Faire. Happy 4th Anniversary Shari. You will love this Historical fact: I am in Massachusetts not far from Sterling, MA where Mary Sawyer’s House was the inspiration for the poem Mary Had A Little Lamb. Sterling MA was so proud of this piece of history but unfortunately the house was destroyed by arson in 2007. There is still a statue of Mary and her Lamb.
I look forward to using this pattern and just might speak to the powers that be in Sterling if they would like me to donate a dress in Mary’s honor.
Thanks you so much.
