My favorite tip is finding material pieces at the thrift stores. I’m always surprised at what people DON’T use that’s just the right size for me.
My favorite sewing tip is to change your needle after every project. Old needles cause so much trouble!
Print the pattern pieces on onionskin paper – they will still be sturdy and you can see through them.
When I see, the most important part is making sure your fabric is cut correctly and on grain, so I always take time to press and square up my yardage along the edge of a table, with the selvedge along the long edge.
My best sewing tip is to not get overly upset if you make a sewing mistake. Even the best of seamstresses will have them.
My favorite sewing tip is using 1/8" two sided tape to put in zippers.
My favorite sewing tip is to take time to clean the lint and dirt from your sewing machine regularly. It makes a difference on how well your machine functions.
My favorite sewing tip would have to be to listen to some relaxing music while creating my granddaughters doll clothes using bright beautiful silk scarves that I have collected.
My favorite sewing tip is storage. Sort by color, collection, or season, then use plastic srorage boxes to see what is inside.
My favorite sewing tips are not unique……have a good seam ripper, you are gonna need it….make more than one copy of your doll clothes patterns, they can get lost or “used up” over the course of much sewing…..keep patterns in a 3-ring binder…..and enjoy yourself!
My favorite tip is to be sure to use the right needle for the material and then I keep the needle package by the machine so if after a few days of not sewing, I can remember which needle is in the machine. Plus I use a highlighter to mark on the case in the needle slot when I put the needle back so I remember that it had been used before.
My favorite sewing trip is: I almost always line a bodice, whether with sleeves or sleeveless. It covers the seams and on a sleeveless dress you don’t have to fuss with binding or trying to hem a curved area. Works beautifully.
My favorite sewing tip is to prewash (preshrink) your fabrics as soon as you buy them. That way when yo are ready to sew, you can go ahead and sew and don’t have to wait to wash your fabric. .
me i use 4 sewing machine from serger to regular one i put differnt color i now im going to use
My favorite sewing tip or trick is basting! I always baste first when using specialty or knit fabrics, that way if I make a mistake it doesn’t take the rest of the day to rip the stitches.
My favorite sewing tip is seeing how the seam ripper is supposed to be used. I’ve been doing it wrong for years and damaged some things because of it. Now I know better!
My favorite tip is buying clothing with detail from a thrift store, wash then use the patterns so I do not have to add special details. If the pants have a cute detail on the bottom…a top with pin tucking, takes some thought about the pattern, and pinning, but they turn out so cute and time saving… love the patterns.
My favorite sewing tip would be “when sewing quilt blocks together press the seems to one side rather than apart. This makes the seems less likely to come apart.”
When sewing clothes for your doll take your time . I enjoy sewing clothes for girls who afford to buy clothes for their dolls
My favorite sewing tip or trick is keep your scissors sharpened.
My favorite sewing tip is to read through the whole pattern before I even cut it out , learned the hard way.
My favorite sewing tip or trick is to make sure fabric is ironed first, and to press seams after sewing them.
My favorite sewing tip is sewing really small items with big hems, and then cutting off the excess. Makes it a lot easier to do tiny.
My favorite sewing tip or trick is reading the instructions before I begin to cut and sew.
My favorite sewing tip is to top stitch around the neckline and armholes (on a sleeveless top) to give the garment a more professional look.
I love shopping at thrift stores for all kinds of fabrics for doll cloths! I also check the store to see what the sale of the week or day is to see if I can get any extra deals. So much fun!
One of my favorite sewing tips is using tissue paper or coffee filters sticking out from under the fabric when sewing a close the edge or turning corners on thin or slippery fabric.
My favorite sewing tip is: consider a pattern as a starting point for your own creativity.
My favorite sewing tip is upcycle something old into something new! I love finding thrift store items I can repurpose, especially if it’s to make doll clothes!
My favorite sewing tip or trick is to have all materials ready before starting project
What is new years without a new party dress…..
My favorite sewing tip is to use pinking shears when sewing doll clothes so the small semes don’t unravel when in sewing them.
Shopping for knits, I find more at thrift stores in pre- made clothes, t shirts, leggins etc, prints are hard to come by in fabric stores. Yeah for recycling.
It’s already been said but my favorite tip is ironing every piece as I go. It just lays right, looks better, and makes it easier.
My favorite sewing tip or trick is reinforcing seams. Even though I only see doll clothes, I now go over my seams a second time to make sure they are strong enough. I don’t always work with stretchy fabrics, and I don’t want a seam to burst open when I’m trying to dress my dolls. I also always finish my raw edges with a zigzag stitch so no fabric frays.
My favorite sewing tip is have a clean sewing area. Have all your supplies ready to use and good lighting.
My ip is to only start or be working on only one project ata a time.
Have fun and enjoy what you are doing. I swe doll clothes for girls who can’t afford to go to American girl.
My favorite sewing tip or trick is using tearaway stabilizer when you are sewing fine fabrics, netting, lace or tulle and using tiny stitches. It really helps make those edges crisp and clean.
Have fun and enjoy what you are doing. I swe doll clothes for girls who can’t afford to go to American girl.
I still sew on my 1940 Kenmore which was handed down to me at the age of 10. Ole ‘Betsy’can’t do the new tricks but she is a real dependable workhorse and we continue to do a lot of volunteer work together. When sewing for my granddaughters’ dolls it can get tricky with those small fancy fabric pieces. When sewing the sequin fabric seams, I will sometimes place wax paper over the seam when sewing to help prevent sticking on the needle. For special fabrics, slippery fabrics and thick fabrics like velvet that are hard to keep a perfect matched alignment when sewing the seams (especially those small pieces), I first hand baste them. Most of my success is attributed to my dear sewing machine and my 1967 Home Ec teacher who insisted on taking the time to do things right and with care.
My favorite sewing tip is to take a deep breath and remember to enjoy the process.
My favorite sewing tip is to use a bodice lining when sewing for dolls, because otherwise necklines are too difficult.
My favorite sewing tip is to sew French Seams as it makes the dress look so much nicer and professional.
My favorite sewing tip is to make sure you read through the directions thoroughly before starting so you know exactly what you are going to be doing.
My favorite tip is to take your time . By not rushing it is going to look so much better .
One of my favorite sewing tips for bulk sewing is to cut out 1 garment pattern of several different fabrics at one time and stack them in a plastic shoe box so they stay together until I begin sewing them together. I try to sew up as many as possible with similar fabrics, using the same size needle, same color machine and serger threads. Then I don’t have to spend time changing these things often.
I like to make sure seams are pressed well.
My favorite tip or trick is to iron everything throughout the entire sewing process for a nice crisp and professional finish
My favorite sewing tip/trick is finger pressing with crisp materials, saving time vs. jumping up to the iron and board!
My favorite sewing tips are to work ina clean space and stay organized and definitely ironing as you see
My favorite sewing trick is to make sure that everyone is out of the house and I am left in peace and quiet to sew. I have also found that if I have all my different color threads set out before I start I save a lot of time. I do a lot of embroidery on the doll clothes. Always fun to come up with new pieces. Enjoy sewing everyone!
Despite seeing my tip above, is still my favorite… use old clothes for fabric. It adds a challenge to make the pattern fit the fabric. I’ve made bathing suits from old sports jerseys. Leggings from leggings. Etc
My favorite sewing tip is to always press your seams open as you finish sewing them. I always use “ that purple thang” for making sure corners are square too.
My favorite sewing tip or trick is go slow and enjoy it – it does not have to be perfect to be made with love.
Use Fray-Chek on everything!
My favorite tip is to make flat fell seams on doll clothes to keep the seams neat and also sturdy for play
my favorite tip, it is hard to decide with all i have learned with pixie faire sew classes and etc. i pick one sew with knits and how to inferfacing the neck band to a tee shirt
My favorite sew tip is to use a trolley needle. I originally bought it for use in heirloom sewing but rather than stop there; It’s the perfect tool to help keep those gathers lined up when attaching a skirt to a bodice, lace to a collar or any where you want your gathered edge to look picture perfect.
My favorite trick/tip is pressing as you go.
My favorite tip is to read the instructions all the way through and then follow them, paying attention to hints provided in the pattern. I spend a lot less time with my seam ripper,
My favorite sewing tip is to take your time. Your suppose to enjoy what your doing. If it becomes work then I don’t enjoy it anymore.
My favorite sewing tip or trick is that your iron is your best friend when sewing,
My favorite sewing tip is when using slippery fabrics, like slinky knits, use light tissue paper to line up and sew through the tissue paper. Then peel the paper carefully.
Pressing as you go really makes a difference in the finished product and it’s the easiest way to deal with those tiny seam allowances on doll clothes.
my favorite sewing tip is that it doesnt get done till you start it…
My favorite Sewing tip: I keep a small magnet on my machine to toss pins on, when I use pins?
My favorite sewing tip is to have a good pair of thread snips handy at all times.
My favourite tip is to chose fabric that is thinner than what you would chose for a person for the same style. That is so that it will drape more naturally.
My favourite sewing tip is using the 1/4inch steam a seam when sewing on the velcro strips.makes the fabric stay in place when sewing on the velcro..
My favorite trick for sewing with patterns is to make copies of them so that when making a bunch of them you always have the original intact for the next item because I always make different modifications and don’t want to mess up the original. Thank you for the giveaways!!
My favorite sewing tip would be read all instructions and take your time.It will show in you finished product.
My favorite sewing tip or trick is to use ready made t shirts to make doll clothes out of. The matching ribbing is there and depending on the size of the shirt I can get several doll shirts. At $3.00 for a t shirt, it is cheaper then buying fabric especially when matching ribbing is not always available.
My favorite tip/trick is to use painters tape as temporary markings on my sewing machine bed or even on fabric (you can sew right over it and it pulls out easily).
My favorite sewing trick is to not have a clock to watch while I am sewing. I just want a time to enjoy it.
Must read the entire pattern first, it’s a must, a small thing like reading the pattern can make the next step when sewing that much easier.
My favorite sewing tip is have a couple friends come over for a sewing day
My favorite sewing tip or trick is cutting multiple fabrics when cutting a pattern. We have multiple dolls and they all have to have coordinating outfits, so….
My favorite sewing tip or trick is to use a turned when inserting elastic. It can “save the day” — or the project in the case of tiny casings.
My favourite sewing tip is to use outgrown clothing for sewing doll clothes, as long as it’s not worn out or stained. For one thing, it’s free. It also gives you greater variety in fabric choices, without having to spend an arm and a leg. You can make some pretty unique clothing pieces, especially if there is something like an appliqué on the clothing item that you can incorporate into your doll item. My girls love getting doll clothes made out of their favourite clothing items.
I make turning tools out of dowels so I can easily turn items like ties and belts to the right side.
My favorite sewing tip is to use a magnetic strip on my pegboard for my bobbins. I found mine at the hardware store!
My tip is to always press seams open that need to be open. Also when making multiple items of the same pattern, cut them all out and sew each step on each item at the same time, then before you know it….you have several items that are completed!
My favorite sewing tip when sewing elastic onto sleeves or panties is to cut the piece of elastic 2" longer than called for so you have 1" overhang on each end to pull on while stretching the elastic & use a zig zag to stitch in place. Leave the 1" overhang to hang on to & stretch a bit while sewing the sleeve or panty seam, then trim it to 1/4" or whatever your seam width is.
My favorite tip of thing to do is play some music and kick my shoes off and start having fun sewing!
“My favorite sewing tip or trick is to ask my granddaughter for her opinion – she knows exactly how her american dolls should look in their new clothes!
The best tip I can ever give for sewing is to keep a seam ripper close and don’t be frustated to use it. If I want my project to look nice I will rip happily!
Measure twice, cut once! My carpenter brother always says it but it can be appropriate in many areas.
My favorite sewing tip or trick is to think outside the box and look for creative ways to use what you have. Have fun!
“My favorite sewing tip or trick is using non-woven sew-in interfacing to trace my patterns onto. The patterns last forever, are easy to store, and can be fitted onto the doll, like cloth, to check fit and make changes.
“My favorite sewing tip or trick is to always always press your seam open, press everything.
One of my favorite sewing tips is to always iron seams as you go. It makes everything look so much better!
My tip is to continually keep your sewing area clean and then you can find whatever you are looking for. Another tip is to put patterns into a binder that has dividers for dresses, pants, pjs, etc.
My favorite tip is to put two door stoppers under the far side of the machine. This makes the machine tilt slightly towards you and gives me better visibility, now I don’t hunch over the machine as much!
My tip is to keep a pair of needle nose pliers in the sewing room. You’d be surprised how handy they are for inserting machine needles, pulling a sewing needle they thick fabric etc. I find myself using it a lot!
My fave is to mark off the completed steps with a check mark as I complete them on the instructions.
My favorite sewing tip is to iron every seam before going on. It make it project look more professional.
My favorite tip is to use a medical clamp to pull pieces right side out through narrow areas.
