Surely by now you’ve seen a dress (or made one) from Buzzin Bea’s Wildflower Dress Pattern. It is sooo pretty and has so many fun options. Recently @forofsuch was inspired by all the ads for cute women’s dresses seen in her IG stories to make a maxi dress for her dolls!
Bonus! Be sure to scroll to the end of this post to enter the Giveaway for a $50 Pixie Faire Gift Card!
Follow along as she shows us how to turn the regular Wildflower Dress into a beautifully flowing maxi dress! On to the post...
I love the ruffled neckline and sleeves of the Wildflower Dress, so this was the pattern I decided to modify for my maxi dress. I had to decide between a two-tier skirt and a three-tier skirt for this maxi style, since I’ve seen and liked both kinds. My main inspiration dress from those ads had four tiers! But since our dolls aren’t as gifted in height, I decided to go for the two-tier style.
I calculated the correct proportions, and this will be simple for you since you just need to make two rectangular pattern pieces.
Supplies:
Step 1: Print out all the pattern pieces. For this maxi dress, we are not going to need to make the Skirt and Skirt Ruffle pieces as directed by the pattern; we will be making our own.
Step 2: Using your paper, tape, and ruler, you will need to make a pattern piece measuring 12 inches by 6 1/2 inches for the Skirt piece. I really like using graph paper when patterns ask you to make your own pieces like this; it really takes a lot of the guessing out of the process.
Step 3: Using your paper, tape, and ruler again, now make a pattern piece that is 22 inches by 4 ½ inches for the Skirt Ruffle.
Step 4: Remember to mark both pieces with “Cut 1 on Fold”.
Step 5: You’re done making modifications! Now use these two pattern pieces in place of the Skirt and Skirt Ruffle pattern pieces you would have made to cut out your fabric. Even with these larger pattern pieces, I can still make this dress with half a yard of material!
Step 6: Follow all pattern directions until the dress is finished.
I have made many tops and dresses from the Wildflower Dress pattern, but I think this is my favorite! You don’t often see our 18” friends in long dresses so it really is something you can make that is unique and trendy!
Thanks, everyone!

Love the 2 tier dress the best.
Love the look of it. Would definitely make it.
I would make it with 3 tiers.
I have loved every pattern I have tried, and will add this in all three tiers to the my favorites!
The 3-tiered is very nice.
I would make 3!
I like both the 1 and 3 tier dresses.
Love the three tiered! My choice for the best one to sew.
I like one tier.
I meant to write one-tier!
I would make the one-timer, it’s adorable!
All three.
I would make the 3 Tier dress.
The more the merrier.
The 2-tier dress.
I love the one tier! Thanks for the giveaway!
I’d make a 3 tiered of course.
3 tier. Love the ruffles!!
Love the animal print, but they are all gorgeous
I would make Number 3, animal print. It is super trendy. Thank you for the giveaway.
A 1-tier classic for me!
I really like the flower dress, but I like the solid one to.I would have to make both.
The floral one is gorgeous!!. I agree with the author – three tiers are too much. Two are pretty, but I think none would also be appropriate.
Love that you give us all the measurements so we can do this ourselves!! Thank you so much
Love the animal print!
I would go with 2 tiers
The multi-tiered dresses look similar to the ones I’ve designed for Barbie. And they took quite a bit of mathematical calculation to do each tier (and many hours of hand sewing).
For the first one, I made the bodice separate from the skirt: https://pin.it/511JbPu
And the second is all together: https://pin.it/1fXjyHM
Classic!
I would make the 3 tier dress
This is a great pattern!
The one tier maxi dress, maybe just make one of each, thanks.
I love all of them so I would definitely make all 3 in many colors some with 1 tier, some with 2 tiers and some with 3 tiers. This will be so cute and you can use lots of different colors.
Adorable hack!!
This is a cute look. Could make in such a variety of fabrics. Could make as a casual look or dresser material for evenings event.
I love this hack. Cute party dress.
This is darling! It looks great in the leopard print
This is darling! It looks great in the leopard print
Ahh, these are gorgeous! The floral mixed with the tiers create such a fun spring piece. If I were to sew it, (who wouldn’t want to!) i’d probably keep it at the 2 tiers. (3 would be fun to experiment with though)
I like the one tier best.
Sandra
Absolutely beautiful! I believe I would make it with two tiers just as the original blog post.
Super cute! I love the 1 tier.
All of the dresses are beautiful. It was just too hard to decide.
Love this dress!!
Love this hack/pattern. 1 tier for me .This would be great for my 80’s collection!
I would make the three tier, possibly in different complementary colours
I love the 2 tier dress the most, but I adore all of the fabric used on each one! So pretty!
I like the longer dress but would enjoy trying all the different tiers.
The more tiers the better! I say three tiers will look the nicest! This is a very nice pattern hack, Hopefully I can try it out soon!
Can’t wait to give this a try! Thanks for sharing.
I can’t wait to try them all. I’ll start with the 2 tier and move on up.
Thanks for the hack!
All of them are beautiful, but I like the two tier the best.
So pretty! I want to make the 2 tier one first.
My granddaughter loves fancy so the more tiers the better for her – 3!
I like the two-tier, but they’re all pretty.
I’m excited about making this in a 1 tier long dress. The floral pattern shown looks just like a dress my granddaughter owns! She would love to have one for her doll as well.
So difficult to decide I love the look of them all but if I had to choose I would probably make the 2 tier especially in a bright floral pattern.
I like the 2 tier dress. Any one of them is a winner!
They are all pretty!
WOW, amazing. love it.
Aloha! I love this pattern featured with the long skirt/ruffle and floral hair band. It will look great with Hawaiian fabric. This should be a basic party dress ready to wear for the next party luau invitation. Eat your pineapple heart out “Hilo Hattie!”
i love all of them thank you for all the idea’s
I love this hack? The pattern was already cute and this just multiplied the awesomeness! I will likely go with a two tier for my girls.
I’d try the two tiered first!
I like number 1 with flower material and number 2 for the bright color. The two tiers make a nice maxie dress that really stands out.
I would start by making the one-tier dress, but I’d probably try the others, too!
I would make all three. Each is beautiful in it’s own way.
I love the two tier one. Thinking I could also make one for my 5 old daughter so she and her doll could dress a like.
I think the 1 tier is adorable.
I love tiers (and layers of ruffles)! I’m working on a 3 tier dress now. And then I’m figuring out how I want a 3-tiers of ruffles to look on another (Victorian) dress for Christmas.
I would make the 2 tiered one, I can already see it in my head.
I would try a two-tier dress for my first project.
So cute!! I’ll probably make the two tier!
This is such a great pattern hack! Thank you, Pixie Faire!
I love this pattern hack. Makes me think of so many ways to change a pattern and get many more dresses!!! the bright colors of those days are what we used to wear. (Can’t believe we did).
Being a child of the ’50’s!!!! I LOVE all the Maxie Dresses. ’70’s was my high-school years and WOW! Flower Children were EVERYWHERE! AND, I was AT the 1982 World’s Fair in Knoxville, TN! YAY! IF I have to choose, I would say the single ruffle at the bottom in a soft flowing fabric. THANKS Pixie Faire!
Three tiered maxi! The more ruffles, the better! Thank you!
I usually love full skirts so I’ll probably make the 3 tier dress. I’ll use a very light-weight fabric so it drapes well and doesn’t overwhelm the doll.
I love the floral and the pink. It is a toss up between these two.
Marilyn
Because I’m short i always look for a way to look taller. Some of my dolls have that “problem” as well so I think I’d go one tier.
I love the floral one!
I love the flexibility I have with this one hack. By altering the fabric type and the length, the possibilities are endless. Thank you!
I love the pattern hack, thank you
I would make the 2 tier dress first.
Each of these hacks would be fun to make. I’d start with the hot pink one. I guess it is my favorite. Thanks for the great ideas!
I love this hack! It’s so adorable! I think I would make one just like the example on this post, the hot pink one.
I would make the 2 tier dress. Thank you.
I’d make the 2 tiers! Love all three dress styles.
The long one are nice but I prefer to make the shorter lengths.
cute cute cute as can be! I would do 2 layers. :-)
I would probably make the 2 tier dress first.
I have made the 2 tiers several times now, and I use to make dress for my daughters when they were little that were very similar to these. I love this style!
I will start with the 2 tier, but I like them all
The floral maxi is my favorite
Probably the 2 tiers but 3 tiers in coordinating fabrics would be cute too…decisions ‼️🤪🤔🤣
the dress with three tiers
I like all the dress
I would make the two tier. It is enough to give it body but still in proportion for the dolls height.
My personal favorite it the floral maxie dress. It is stunning. If it came in my size I would wear it!
All of them are cool! Thanks!
They would all be pretty! Thank you!

I love the 2-tier, so I would probably make that – it seems so elegant to me. This was a clever idea, thanks for sharing!
