I found the similar adult headbands at my Dollar Tree. I took apart and cut off 7inches off each
long piece and retwisted and sewed and will fit 18 in doll’s head. No hairbands needed for you reuse the covered elastic already there,
The best brushes for synthetic hair are the wig brushes. I taught my granddaughters not to use it on their hair, only the dolls. People have oil on their hair and it’s not good for dog wigs.
I am planning on making some of these to match the outfits that I make for my Great Granddaughter’s doll, and am going to make some of the headbands for her also.
very cute and simple idea – thank you for sharing. My tip for doll hair — always use a wire brush – the best & cheapest ones on the market are in the pet isle!
Love the hair band, why not have a plaite down the centre bak of your dolls head taking in the side and plaite all the way down to the end I think one of the dolls would look really good
Alas, I don’t have a hair tip. Just let ho and have wild hair like my own!
My favorite hairstyling tip is to have a friend over and ask them if they would like to style it for fun. I LOVE to sew and DO NOT love to style doll hair. lol
Thanks for the tutorial! I made one and it turned out very cute. Definitely will make more.
Very clever and so easy. Can’ t wait to try it?
Like this hair band twist. Now if we could make this for real people.
One of my favorite hairstyling tips is to brush the dolls’ hair starting from the tips and working upward in small sections. Too many girls, and many adults, try to brush starting from the scalp the way we would brush our own hair.
One of my favorite hair styling tips is when untangling hair use a spray bottle with water and a small amount of hair conditioner in the water and start at the ends-it works well and avoids the tears!
to try new ideas and things and to do it on my 10 year old great granddaughter
I can’t claim credit for this (a young lady who goes by Nethilia in the AG community discovered it) but braid spray works wonders on dolls with coarse, unruly hair!
Love it. A cute accessory for any outfit.
How absolutely adorable! I think I will make one for our Granddaughter and her AG doll for when we go to visit them next month. Thank You!
My favorite styling tip is let a young girt do it in the most recent style. ( it is pretty crazy, but cute)
Great way to make a headban that stays on Love it. thanks
Thanks for the cute headband project. My tip is to use a brush with widely spaced bristles to untangle hair.
So Cute! I really love it. Thank you
Love this! I love the natural curls look (biased because my daughter has beautiful curls). I use a spray bottle to wet the hair and then curl the hair over my finger, hold for a couple of seconds and then release.
Because I make doll clothes and accessories for my granddaughters I plan to make matching child/doll headbands from this tutorial. Thank you so much!
I don’t really have any tips cause I never make time to do my own hair…..I’ve seen so many cute styles (especially on some of the dolls) that I wish I could do to my own long hair.
Oh! This is so cute! Almost makes me want to try and make one for me! :)
My tip is I always use a spray bottle of water or use detangling spray for hair, always works for us!
ONE OF MY FAVORITE HAIR STYLING TIPS IS… match your Bobby pins to the hair color. I never realized that was why Bobby pins came in other colors until college. When your pins match, they hide so much better for buns, etc.
My tip works for humans and dolls. Don’t use rubber bands in your hair. If somehow you happen to have one in your hair, cut it out to remove it. Any other way will likely rip out hair. Thanks for this tutorial, Marilyn!
Braids or French braid are my favorite hair styles.
One of my favorite hair styling tips is…to use a good wig brush and let your children play with and style the hair themselves, it seems the hair ultimately ends up in less than perfect condition anyway, so… keep in mind that the head can be replaced if necessary. Fix in ponytails or braids to keep the hair less matted and frizzed.
One of my favorite hair styling tips is…for doll or human, work with the type of hair the doll or human has. I handle curly doll or human hair different from straight doll or human hair!
You can make these out of an adult stretchy head band. Just do a double twist in the middle and put the two open ends together and you have a no sew twist headband. It will fit an AG doll just fine.
…to use my daughter’s spray leave in conditioner (Honest Co.) and then use my fingers to smooth the problems out, twist with fingers if curly. It helps tame the problems from play.
I am anxious to try this new pattern. It will be fun to make headbands to match their clothing.
In order to not mess the dolls hair, I use a jersey book cover from the nearby dollar store to wrap the hair. Since I am a visual learner, if I win a sample, I might cut up some of the book covers to make these fancy bands. Thank you for the lovely patterns.
I love this! It is such a great idea, and how simple it is. Can’t wait to make one for my Grand Daughters! Thank you for the new idea!
Very cute. Will make several for all my little doll friends and their owners. Thanks for doing this
I’m not really into hair styling. I keep mine and the dolls hair long and loose :)
That is cute! Making some this weekend!
I’m horrible with hair, but I sometimes put a hanky over the doll’s head when pulling a top over her head—keeps hair from snagging and tangling.
“ONE OF MY FAVORITE HAIR STYLING TIPS IS.. Keep it simple.
One of my favorite hairstyling tips for dolls is to always cover the hair when pulling clothes over the head, then to smooth with a metal comb & mist, if needed.
The best dolly hair care tip I can think of just now is to put her hair up in a pony tail when trying on cloths. Thanks Marilyn for the adorable headband and tutorial!
I don’t know if the tip is to be for human or doll hair but this works for both anyway. Always take your time while combing/brushing your hair. That’s the only way to be sure you won’t break or damage the hair. Start at the ends working toward the scalp to untangle as you go.
I love the head band and will make these for dolls and the little girls who love them so much too.
Oh, I like fabric. Forget my poor dolls, I want one for me! I never wore headbands but now that I wear hearing aids, there is no more “behind the ear” to tuck my hair behind so I am starting to wear them.
For doll hair, I find a good metal cat comb works wonders. They often have nice cushy handles and are cheaper than wig brushes.
I just love the hair band. My favorite doll hair tip is to keep my 6 year old away from my dolls, lol. And i keep a hat on them until I’m ready to use them. The hat keeps dust and such off of them while they are in their stands.
I bouinght a doll at a yard sale. a whole $ .50! Her hair was worse than a haystack! I got my laundry conditioner out and soaked her hair in it. got out my comb, and started straightening it out. It only took me an hour, but it was worth every minute. she is a beautiful doll now. with straight , shiny hair. smells good too!! I learned how to do a French twist in my own head. this was when I had long hair. It took me 4 tries, but I finally got it down pat. Hair looked great!!! I did have a book on styling, so I had that in front of me those 4 tries. glad I had it…………they help a great deal. better than going to the salon and spending all those bucks there!!1
Love the hair band! I use a little old fashion method for my dolls hair. I made them hair bonnets, which I use to cover their hair when I am fitting them for a new outfit or having them try on a finished one! I first either braid their hair or for straight hair, I put it in a pony tail with small rubber bands spaced a half inch all the way to the end then fit it into the bonnet. This has worked out really well! Thanks
I am old fashioned folks, just brush your hair with an old fashioned brush 100 times. You are all too young to remember that but, it does keep your hair healthy. As for this head band, I can see making this for my granddaughters (many AM Dolls) and a matching one for her!
I enjoy finger curling the hair of dolls with super curly hair like Rebecca and Cecile!
Tip[ for doll hair…definitely wire brush…spray water (gentle mIst ) & comb/brush..gentle hand. For my hair?… a good shampoo & conditioner (doesn’t need to be pricey tho)..big tooth comb thru..& blowdry. A nice clip or hairband…and off I go! :)
Thank you for chance to win this super Hairband too! :D
Having baby fine and thin hair.. I just keep it short and wear a hat on bad hair days LOL.. Cute head band.. My grandkids would love this for their dolls and for them too..
First to give it to my daughter who is a hair dresser and if she’s not available to sit and take my time with a wire brush so your not ripping out the hair and then to braid so it doesn’t get all tangled again. Love the headband would like to make some for my granddaughters. Thanks!!!!!!!
Love the hair ban
I am sure we can adjust it to make a matching hair band for my nine years old grand daughter .She has lovely curly long blond hair.

One of my favorite hair styling tips (for dolls) is. . . using a misting bottle to make their hair easier to work with!
Thanks for the chance to win!
Ms. AGdoll
My tip for your dolls is to always only use a wire-bristle hairbrush to keep your doll’s hair from becoming broken/frizzy! Thanks for this fun headband tutorial and giveaway, Marilyn!
One of my favorite hairstyling tips is… Loving your hair! You must take good care of your hair and nourish it. It is a vital part of your body:)
I’m terrible when it come to taking care of my hair, it’s curly and wild, so I just toss my head and let the curls fall where they want. That’s my favorite hair care tip. I do like your headband with a twist, I would like to make one for an adult size. Thank You!!
Not a tip but a wish, that I had thick hair and not the fine stuff that I have. Love the hairband.
For a doll: “ONE OF MY FAVORITE HAIR STYLING TIPS IS…” a hot water dunk to revive a dolls messy hair!
For a person: “ONE OF MY FAVORITE HAIR STYLING TIPS IS…” to just throw your hair in a bun if it is out of control LOL!!
My favorite hair styling tip is……I just don’t have any. My hair is so short I just use the curling iron on the bangs and maybe the sides if they are long enough. I like to see “how to” suggestions for the doll’s hair and this headband is a good one.
One of my favorite hairstyling tips is to have your hair trimmed regularly in the style you like.
“One of my favorite hairstyling tips is” to always brush your hair starting from the bottom so it doesn’t hurt as bad and it stays healthy.

What a clever idea—and very quick to sew! Thanks!
What a cute and easy idea! Thanks so much for sharing, my Granddaughters will love this.

We love French braids or headbands around our house.
I like wearing headbands! When I have my hair cut, I ask that it not be too fussy; want it to look good no matter how hard the wind is blowing.
One of my favorite hair styling tips is gel, lots of gel.
…small side braid with clip to keep my hair out of my eyes!
One of my favorite styling tips is just using a couple Bobby pins to pull one side of my hair out of my face. Cute headband. :)
Tellement simple . Merci pour ce tutorial Becs Paulette
One of my favorite hairstyling tips is a spritz of water and wrap hair section by section around 1inch straw pieces. Bobby pin and air dry. End papers help.
that is such a great idea. matching for outfits. thanks
My favorite hair styling tip is to let my teenage daughters do it. They will fuss with my hair and make it look really nice. Let to my own – I will run a brush thru it and run out the door.!
Looks really simple! Thanks
One of my favorite hairstyling tips is a low ponytail twisted into a bun. Quick and cute and can be dressed up in a hurry!
My doll definitely needs one.
I love making these! They are addictive though and every outfit I sew gets a matching one ( twisted or regular) plus one for my granddaughter in " people" size. So very cute. Headbands are my favorite hair style trick, leaves the long hair down and pretty but keeps the face free of hair and shining pretty as well!
“ONE OF MY FAVORITE HAIR STYLING TIPS IS…”To get a curling style in the hair without using a hot curling iron, just use a little setting lotion and a straw and roll the hair up on the straw, then pull the straw out of the hair while holding the hair in place. Put a Bobbie pin in the hair do this all over your hair and let dry. When you remove the pins just pull each curl down and there you have it a head full of curls. Use a little water for your doll’s hair and do the same thing with setting the curls in her hair. Also, Love this headband it would be great for this style.
Can’t wait to try this!!
Looks like a quick and easy project for mom and daughter to work on together. Love the color of the dress on that doll.
I sure like learning all of these new ideas for the AG doll. After years of being ill, giving away all of my sewing things, I am now back to my sewing and enjoying life once again. It has been so easy with Pixie patterns. I just love the learning experience in my own home. Thank you all for doing such a good job.
These are so cute and a great use of scraps. One of my favorite hairstyling tips is to use disposable clear hair elastics because they don’t show up in photos and distract from the outfits I sell.
Love the hair band it will look great and keep the hair out of here face
How cute! Sometimes the simplest things are the best?
One of my favorite hair styling tips is ponytails! They’re always and easy “go to” hairstyle on days when your hair is doing it’s own “thing!”
One of my favorite hair styling tips is: braids! I love all kinds of braids – especially the ones that are pulled out and feathered. They are so beautiful! ( Love this cute hair band! )
ONE OF MY FAVORITE HAIR STYLING TIPS IS tucking hair into a headband to create a gorgeous updo that is PERFECT for when your doll has untidy curls!
Thank you for sharing this! My great niece has been wanting matching ones for her and her AG. Now I can fulfill that wish!
No more hair in the face! Love it.
Super cute, can’t wait to find the time to make this quick project. Thanks!!!

Besides using a metal brush and a spritz of water (as they tell you at the American Girl store when you adopt your doll), I like to use permanent curlers and the the paper that goes along with them. I spritz my dolls hair, wrap the ends of each hair section and let it dry for a couple of days. When I take the curlers out my doll(s) will have beautiful curls!
