In the Design Academy course, we've often talked about using homage to pay tribute to a character that you love, this is the perfect example of just that! Disney ILY 4ever compared to American Girl:
Like you, we were wondering how these 18-inch ILY 4ever dolls compare to the 18-inch American Girl dolls. Surprisingly, they are pretty close! We have a "Inspired by Cinderella" doll and have a set of pictures showing her in comparison to the American Girl Luciana doll. The Luciana doll is wearing a dress from the Liberty Jane pattern collection (coming soon!) The dresses can be worn by either doll and fit just about the same on each body.
The Disney ILY 4ever doll has a full cloth body, similar to the American Girl doll. Her arm length is a bit longer and her waistline is a straighter, but overall they are pretty close.
Here's a look from the side to see that the ILY 4ever doll is more similar to an American Girl Doll than a Journey Girls or My Life As doll which as much slimmer.
Looking for doll clothes for the new Disney ILY 4ever doll? We're pretty confident that most of the patterns designed for 18-inch dolls (such as American Girl) will fit this doll too! You can browse our full collection of 18-inch Doll Clothes patterns here.
Some of the shoes can be swapped, like flats, slip ons and sandals. But the ILY 4ever doll does have a slightly larger foot, just slightly.

I came across this blog when I was looking for the new Disney ILY dolls and just wanted to comment. We have 5 of them (my daughter is obsessed) and the bodies are all slightly different so not even all of the Disney fashion packs fit all the dolls which is a little disappointing. We have 2 that are quite a bit thicker like they’re overstuffed maybe. They’re my favorite 18" doll besides American Girl though and a much better price point for younger kids.

I have been in hopes to find somewhere telling peoples ideas. They are adorable. Disappointing in the amount of hair they have, very thin. As far as 18 inch wow, and the eyes are wonderful. In outfits every doll needs pjs.

As a seamstress for over 50 years, it’s always fun to design with a nod toward another Era or fashion icon. It’s a great idea to use your imagination to find something within a particular Disney character, and select fabrics or an iconic element (minnie’s bow, tinkerbell’s skirt) and design your outfit to incorporate that.

I had a hard time choosing, but think my favorite Disney doll is the Minnie inspired girl. The way Walt Disney got started was with Mickey Mouse, then added friends for him. Minnie is sassy and happy, bringing smiles to everyone!

I love them all, but I would say that the Elsa-inspired doll is my favorite. I love how much thought and creativity went into the clothing and especially the accessories for each of the dolls. Thank you so much for the review. I didn’t realize that they were soft-bodied. It is also great to know that they can wear clothing made from many of the 18" doll patterns out there.
