The Lacy Leaves Knitted Tunic combines a leaf motif, lacework and simple stockinette to create a fun and casual top for 18-inch dolls such as American Girl™. The tunic’s yoke features a garland of repeating leaves set over a band of arrowhead lace. A stockinette bodice with gentle A-line shaping transitions to a finishing band of arrowhead lace. Garter trims at the neckline, cuffs and lower border complete the look. A fully opening rear button closure ensures easy dressing.
This knit is worked from the top down. After the yoke is made the stitches are divided and those that form the sleeve are held on spare yarn while the body is completed. The sleeves are then knit separately in the round. Button bands are integrated into the sweater’s construction to create a completely seamless top. The pattern requires double knitting weight yarn and will knit up beautifully in wool, wool blends or synthetics.
This top is front-back reversible. Its finished length falls below the doll’s hips making it a truly versatile garment. Whether paired with leggings, skirts, or worn as a mini dress or cardigan, the Lacy Leaves Knitted Tunic is a great way to expand your dolls’ wardrobe!

- 200 m or 220 yds of double knitting (DK) yarn **Note: synthetic yarns were used for the pattern prototypes. These generally have more yardage per ball than wool and wool blends. Pay attention to yardage when purchasing yarn for this project!

- 3 mm (US size 3) knitting needles, straight or circular, or size needed to obtain gauge
- 3 mm (US size 3) set of 4 double pointed (or circular knitting needles if using magic loop method of knitting in the round), or size needed to obtain gauge
- tapestry needle
- 5 buttons (11 to 13 mm or 3/8-to-1/2-inch diameter)
- stitch markers (optional)
