Layers & Practicality. Those were hallmarks of clothing worn out on the Prairie in the 1850s. Layers kept out wind, dust, cold, and sun. Practicality was the way of life for these pioneers.
Everything was used & reused.
Still, women & girls found simple ways to look and feel pretty for special occasions Such touches were appreciated all the more for its scarcity. Small embellishments-such as embroidery or a jaunty flower in a buttonhole, were considered the mark of one’s own style, however modest it might seem today.
This design commemorates the spirit of celebration when walking on a beautiful day & counting one’s blessings and the innocent charm of a young pioneer girl gathering flowers and dreams for a special celebration with loved ones…
