As a girl growing up in the early 60’s I lived in dresses and skirts. But as a girl living in the country with almost all boys to play with, it was nothing to climb 40 foot cedar and fir trees, jump on a horse (bareback of course) and wade through the creeks catching crawdads in those dresses. I was such a tomboy and all my clothes took a beating. I was always tearing out the waistbands and arms of my dresses. This is a 1960's influenced school dress that my mother made for me and my sisters. With a slightly dropped contrasting waist and skirt bands and slightly gathered tulip sleeves it was designed for a tom girl like myself the freedom of movement while making it easy for my mom to fix any torn out waistbands.
