Finally—a skirt-style overall pattern for 18” dolls that really fits*! This versatile PDF pattern, by Forever 18 Inches, is the feminine counterpart to the NOT! Your Mama's Overalls pants pattern, and is also loaded with options for customization. You can choose between two distinct designs: a contemporary version with a straight A-line skirt, or a retro-style design that's appropriate for many historical periods. Both styles have classic lines and two separately drafted patterns for straps that offer the choice of using commercially-made purchased buckles or button-covered snaps.
All versions of the overalls feature a skirt, a waistband or yoke, a front bib, and an option for straps—but the rest of the choices are up to you! Make them as simple or as detailed as you wish: you can add topstitching, working pockets (cargo, jean, and a front bib pocket), and a back bib with straight or rounded strap ends using overall buckles or buttons (straight-skirted version only). Suggestions are also given for straps using ribbon and “D” rings for an even simpler solution.
Mini-tutorials and sewing tips are also embedded in the pattern and you’ll learn an easy method to sew and turn rounded strap ends. The research has been done for you—you just get to have fun sewing!
Not suitable for fabrics with a one-way print because of the overall straps.
*This pattern was sized on a recently purchased American Girl doll. Measurements for older American Girl dolls and similar-style dolls should be checked for possible fitting adjustments.

2. 1/3 yd. of lightweight cotton for lining
2. Thread: contrasting and matching
5. Two OR four medium snaps (depending on Strap closure choices)
6. Three ¼” buttons, OR one ¼” button and two commercially purchased overall buckles OR “D” Rings
7. 6” x 12" rectangle of very lightweight fusible interfacing
8. Needle for hand sewing
9. Optional: cellophane tape for marking stitching lines
Retro Skirt Overalls:
1. 1/2 yd. of Fabric
2. Thread: contrasting and matching
3. Three medium snaps
4. Five ¼” buttons OR three 1/4" buttons with two purchased buckles (or "D" rings), depending on choice of strap closures
5. 4’x 5” rectangle of very lightweight fusible interfacing.
6. Needle for hand sewing
7. Optional: 1/4" graph paper for making the skirt pattern
8. Optional: cellophane tape for marking stitching lines
