An iconic look from the 1950s, Harper's Bazaar called the shirtwaist silhouette "the essence of femininity," with its nipped-in waist above a very full pleated skirt. Sewn up in crisp, casual cottons, the shirtwaist dress became a mid-century wardrobe staple for women and girls.
Our Fifties Shirtwaist Dress is inspired by vintage home sewing patterns for girls. Close-fitting bodice features traditional menswear details such as convertible collar, button front placket, and back yoke. Skirt has all-around unpressed pleats. View A has long sleeves with pointed turn-back cuffs; View B has elbow- length cuffed sleeves; View C is sleeveless.
Recommended Fabrics: medium-weight woven fabric such as chambray, cotton shirting, or cotton pique
