Let's Set Sail! 1930s Dress Inspired by Shirley Temple for Eighteen Inch Dolls
Inspired by an adorable sailor dress worn by actress Shirley Temple in 1934, "Let's Set Sail!" features a yoke style bodice, puffed sleeves with embellished cuffs, and a full skirt that is pleated in front and back. There is a topstitched overlay on the yoke, mimicking the jaunty look of a sailor collar. In the center front pleat is a happy little sailboat-at-sea motif made in a combination of appliqué and decorative stitches.
This 38-page pattern was developed the Intermediate Level doll sewist, and assumes that you are familiar with common sewing terms and techniques.
Techniques included in the pattern: making pleats, top stitching, appliqué, using decorative stitches, setting a puffed sleeve, hand finishing a lining.
Every step of the process is illustrated with instructions and photographs.
Not just a summery sailor dress! Have fun with combinations of prints and solids to make a sweet school dress. The pattern makes a wonderful base for a classic pleated 1930s girl's dress.
