Prairie Chic 18" Doll Clothes Pattern

  |

Offering an adorable on-trend outfit, this pattern, by Karen Lorraine Design, consists of a sleeveless, lined bodice, and a three-tiered skirt. A variety of lace adds class and style to the armholes and neckline, while alternating lace throughout the skirt brings charm and femininity. As a bonus, there are three sleeve possibilities, including a bell sleeve and a gathered sleeve. These over-sized detachable sleeves showcase an old-world style shifting into a modern age.

I have used lawn fabric for the blue outfit and a combination of woven cottons for the plum outfit. (The combinations of cottons are lawn, broadcloth, and quilting cotton.)  Other fabrics would work equally well and offer new styles and looks (see variation page).

The “Prairie Chic” PDF sewing pattern is designed to fit 18-inch dolls like American Girl® and Our Generation™. The model I have used for these patterns is Elizabeth (best friend of Felicity), who is considered a pre-Mattel™, Pleasant Company™ doll. Pre-Mattel™ dolls are slightly larger than the newer AG models (although their sizes also vary within this Pleasant Company™ group).  This means if you are sewing for a newer AG doll, then this pattern should easily fit your doll. If you are sewing for an older AG doll, especially a pre-Mattel™ doll, then you may wish to check your AG doll’s measurements against Elizabeth’s as follows:

  • Chest 11"
  • Waist 10½"
  • Hips 11 5/8"
  • Biceps 4¼"
  • Wrist 3½"

Recommended Fabrics: Light to medium-weight woven cottons like lawn, quilting cotton, cotton
