Double Dutch Jumper and Blouse 18" Doll Clothes Pattern

The Double Dutch Jumper and Blouse pattern, by Forever 18 Inches, features a jumper with a cut-away bodice with suspender-style straps, a circular skirt, and a coordinating blouse with a collar, bishop sleeves, and a back closure. The blouse can be embellished with a tie under the collar or a ribbon bow. Jumper variations include pocket flaps, a faux front-button opening on the bodice, and a double skirt option. Jumping rope and skipping chants are time-honored traditions enjoyed by school-aged children since the beginning of America. Double Dutch jump rope games originated with Dutch settlers in the New York state area, and take the genre one step further by adding an extra rope turned in the opposite direction. In recent decades the game has evolved into a highly competitive sport that requires a precise sense of timing, endurance, and athletic ability. The Double Dutch Jumper is a retro-inspired pattern that pays homage to the early days of the sport when jumping rope was a game played during school recess, skirts were twirly, and referees were hawk-eyed classmates who couldn't wait for their own turn in the ropes!

This PDF sewing pattern is designed to fit 18" dolls such as American Girl®.  

Suggested Fabrics: Recommended Fabrics: For the Jumper:  a medium-weight fabric such as Kona Cotton or quilter's cotton, light to medium weight fabric for the Blouse, and lightweight fabric such as lawn or batiste for the Tie, Lining and Blouse bias finishing strip.

Supplies Needed:

Fabric Requirements:

• Option 1 Jumper: 1/3 yd. Main Fabric and 1/6 yd. Lining Fabric 
• Option 2 Jumper: 1/3 yd. Main Fabric (add an extra ¼ yd. for contrasting lower Skirt) and 1/6 yd. Lining Fabric 
• Option 3 Blouse: 1/4 yd. of Main Fabric and 1/4 yd. Collar Lining and bias finishing strip (or large scrap)

• 1. Matching thread and optional contrast thread 
• 2. One pair of small, very sharp scissors to trim seam allowances
• 3. Optional: Fray Check®
• 4. A Frixion® pen or other marking tool 
• 5. Optional: a hemostat or long pair of tweezers for turning small pieces
• 6. Optional: coffee filters OR tissue paper OR embroidery stabilizer to use as a backing when edge stitching
• 7. Optional: 1/3 yd. narrow elastic jewelry cord for Tie

• 1. Six ¼" buttons
• 2. Two medium-size snaps 

Option 3:

• 1. Three small or medium snaps OR hook and loop for back closure
