The Cotehardie was a standard article of clothing through most of the Middle Ages. The design in this pattern allows it to be made with either a front or back closure.
Historically, the dress was generally laced up with eyelets or rings, but the option for a snap closure included for easier construction and dressing. It features four godets that give the dress a nice feminine flare. Sleeves can be cut long or short. The bottom edges of the dress and sleeves can be hemmed or bound. Cotehardies could be worn individually or layered for added warmth.
Complete the outfit with a chemise, available separately.
This PDF sewing pattern by Thimbles and Acorns is designed to fit 18 inch dolls such as American Girl®.
