I love Doll Joy patterns. My two favorites are the Joy Jeans and the Windbreaker. All the Doll Joy patterns fit wonderfully well, and I’ve made these two out of so many different fabrics, I’ve completely lost count. They are always well-received among the little girl set.

Oh how lovely! I started sewing for my cousin’s dolls 20 years ago when I was newly married. Then I sewed for my own kids. This summer I will use the tried and true patterns to teach my youngest how to sew on my 102 yo treadle sewing machine.

And I love that they use scraps, which I have in abundance. And the best part of scrappy projects is that if you make a mistake as a young learner, you just find a complimentary piece to replace it. Far better method than trying to learn from my grandma, who grew up sewing for her 5 brothers and sisters during the depression. Mistakes almost always became, “oh sweetie, let me do that. Don’t want to waste good fabric, right?”

The Joy bells dress for 14 " dolls and the Carina jumper for 18 " are two of my favorite patterns from this designer. I appreciate the fact that most of her designs are most appropriate for the age group that the dolls represent. I also love the rompers for the 15" Bittys. There is not much available nowadays for them!
