I have a hard time finding time to get the jobs done
I shop for small doll notions in the Home Sew Catalog.
I find doll fabrics and notions at doll shows, and online at CR’s Crafts! They have shoes and everything!
I have a hard time finding buckles for overalls. I had to use snaps instead.
I have a hard time finding buckles for overalls. I have a cute pattern. I just can’t find the buckles.
I shop for small buttons on Amazon as our local fabric store does not carry them.
For small doll items II have had the best luck at Hobby Lobby or JoAnns.
I have the hardest time finding many notions for making doll clothes. I like the ideas mentioned in many of the comments – thrift stores, garage sales, etc. I’ll keep my eye out!
Too late for this contest, but just wanted to add another resource. Check out Dollmakerjourney.com for grommets from 1/16” to 1/8”, eyeglasses in four sizes, steam a seam, proportional scales with directions to resize human objects to fit any size doll, turning tubes, tutorials, and many ideas to create cloth dolls.
I have never been able to find the narrow Velcro for doll clothes. HELP!!!
I have the hardest time finding buckles, zippers, and belting for doll clothes.
I shop for shoe leather at thrift stores and yard sales where I sometimes find leather vests, handbags or jackets.
zipit at https://www.etsy.com/shop/zipit?utm_source=etsythemeshop&utm_medium=api&utm_
campaign=api has zippers in sizes 4" to 16". I got sippers from her last time a bought then. I’m not sure if she has septrating ones or not.
I had a hard time find separating zippers for doll clothes and then I found Zipper That Doll with a variety of sizes and colors. They are fabulous to work with
I have a hard time finding cute knit fabrics .
PrettyInPinkSupply at https://www.etsy.com/shop/PrettyInPinkSupply?ref=simple-shop-header-name&listing_id=631298476 Has different leather/glitter/vinyl/fabric sheets at a pretty decent price but you don’t get a lot of fabric, however a 7 1/2 " piece would make several prs of boots or shoes depending on the pattern.
CollarSafe at https://www.etsy.com/shop/CollarSafe?ref=simple-shop-header-name&listing_id=625496028 has very narrow and thin Velcro in 12 different colors.
MaryaDollsBoutique at https://www.etsy.com/shop/MaryaDollsBoutique?ref=simple-shop-header-name&listing_id=736064369&ga_search_query=mini%2Bzippers§ion_id=27047574 Has small buckles but I think the are sized for the Barbie sized dolls. she has zippers but I would not purchase them as they are cut to size they have no metal bar to keep the zipper from coming undone.
ISewForDoll at https://www.etsy.com/shop/ISewForDoll?ref=simple-shop-header-name&listing_id=269632215&ga_search_query=Doll%2Bsized%2Bzippers§ion_id=19024550 has zippers and buckles, I’m not sure what scale they are (I think Barbie size).
I hope it was OK to post these links, I would send a message asking about what size dolls those items work with before ordering anything from them.
I find supplies at garage sales and thrift shops. I upcycle baby clothes, garments with small prints, lightly felted sweaters, and remove vintage trims and tiny buttons from many of my finds. There’s also plenty of fabric for sale, though it’s mostly cotton calico.
I have the hardest time finding small scale knit stripes for leggungs, tights or even tops for the 18"dolls. You show such cute patterns, but then i can never find the fabric. I shoo hobby lobby, joannes and even etsy. But have ran into to many obsticles to get fabric and complete projects!
I have the hardest time finding doll pretty doll scale plaid.
I could not find buckles for overalls in ag and agat size. They are either too tiny or human size.
I shop EVERYWHERE for doll sized notions and accessories!
My brain seems to operate quite comfortably in 1/3 scale and I find things in the most unexpected places.
It was fun reading through the comments to get new ideas of where to look. What a creative community we are!
Several things I haven’t seen mentioned:
For narrow cotton laces, tiny mother of pearl buttons and a variety of small prints in lawn and fine-wale corduroy, try a Smocking/heirloom sewing store or website.
Tandy Leather has some small buckles and clasps in their jewelry hardware section.
I got some tiny squeeze clamps in the craft/jewelry section at Walmart recently.
JoAnn has a line of 3/8" buttons. They come in a variety pack with about 6 different colors. There are a number of different color combinations. I’ve picked them up when buttons go on sale so now I have a nice selections of colors.
I also save the wonderful fabric from my husband’s non-iron cotton shirts when the collars and cuffs wear out. A few of these have a tiny check which would be perfect for boy dolls shirts. Old wool suits are sometimes surprisingly lightweight and would make good pants, suits or jackets.
I love getting my zippers from Tiny Zippers which I just discovered is now Zpiier That Doll.
I have the hardest time finding small scale prints in fabric other than calico..I especially search for prints for swim suits and sportswear
I have the hardest time finding small scale design fabric.
I shop for buckles, buttons and other small trims at local thrift stores and Tuesday Morning.
I was sad when so many of my local fabric stores went out of business. Now I have to search the on-line stores for small notions and that’s chancy. I can never be really sure exactly what color it’s going to be or what I’m going to get. Home-Sew seems to be the most reliable for small scale trims and notions. Fabric and ribbon is still a problem because of the color matching.
I love to shop at Dollspart.com for their authentic tiny silk soutache and fringe, tiny hooks and eyes, swiss hat braid in so many lovely colors for making color-coordinated hats (also inexpensive ready-made hats to decorate), doll socks, and many types of shoes including mary-janes in black and white.
I shop for tiny overall buckles online at Etsy
“I have the hardest time finding…” separating doll zippers.
I shop for doll accessories at thrift stores. Human-sized bracelets make great necklaces for the 18 inch dolls. Shot glasses come in all shapes and I’ve found some great mugs and milk glasses for the 18 inch dolls. I wasn’t able to buy everything I wanted to due to space concerns but at least I know they’re out there.
I shop for fabric in the remnants section at Jo-Ann’s, although it’s hard to find specific material. Some items I find at local thrift stores
I have the hardest time finding buckles to make belts and shoes.
I have the hardest time finding the fabric for shoes and boots. Buy the precut soles from Pixie Faire. Just can’t find fabric for tops.
I shop for zippers and doll-sized Bibles at HomeSew.com.
I shop for old laces, trims, etc. at local estate sales.
I shop for 15 z 18 inch doll clothes supplies on Etsy.com. Lots of venders and great ideas!
Thanks for asking! I cannot find properly scaled buckles that satisfy me. I am fortunate to live in an area that has many thrift stores and secondhand clothing shops, so about half my stash is upcycling. I have learned let the fabric inspire me rather than getting fixated on a particular pattern. If I go hunting for particular cloth, it will elude me.
I have the hardest time finding fabric with small designs that don’t look like they are for grandma’s quilt.
I have the hardest time finding fancy fabrics like brocades in a small enough scale for 18" dolls
I have a hard time finding lace fabrics and lace trims with a small enough scale for dolls.
I shop for fabric from my scrap bins! I love getting fabrics from Hobby Lobby from their seasonal apparel fabrics. Great fabrics, prices and super cute and trendy!
I have the hardest time finding time to sew all the cute doll clothes! I have four daughters and they all have OG dolls. That’s a lot of wardrobes!
I shop for fabric at Hobby Lobby or Joann’s.
I search on line for the season’s best deals.
I shop for buttons and laces at wish.com, but need to be careful for sometimes the shipping is high and also because it takes time to receive it since it comes from China
At Nancy Notions. I have bought kits from Picie Faire
At Nancy Notions. I have bought kits from Picie Faire
I shop for cute fabrics and ribbons for doll clothes at JoAnn and Hobby Lobby.
I have the hardest time finding small findings. Buckles, buttons and the like.
I love the shop Kabooco on Etsy for buttons and trims. I have found lots that are small enough for doll clothes and shop owner Susan is a delight to work with.
For many years I lived overseas and had to search out mail order sources for notions and findings. The hardest thing to find are doll sized drawstring cord locks which Dritz used to make under their Dritz for Dolls label. One can still find them at crscraft.com. I also use Home Sew and a store in Grand Rapids, MI, named Fabric Fair. They do have doll sized buttons. Otherwise, I look wherever I shop for fabric. Finding zippers is not as hard now as it used to be.
I have the hardest time finding small scale floral prints (not calicos) for the 18" dolls, 14" Wellies and 10" Tonner Mary Engelbreit dolls I sew for. For the small ones, tiny enough prints in anything can be tough. Most online fabric I’ve seen is pricey to very expensive, out of my price range.
I have a hard time finding small buttons that look historical. I often purchase antique or vintage buttons. The scale is perfect and compliments vintage or antique fabric. My main sources are Etsy, eBay, and second hand stores. Estate sales are also an excellent source as old clothing often has smaller notions. I purchase the clothing and up cycle the buttons as well as the fabric if applicable.
I like shopping for trims at thrift stores. I have a hard time finding zippers for dolls.
I find the best fabrics for doll clothes in upcycled, outgrown kids clothes.
I have a hard time find small zippers. Sometime I go to the thrift stores and by cheap baby clothes and take the zippers off of them and sometimes they have jars of buttons.
I have the hardest time finding tiny zippers
There are few places to shop for sewing supplies in my area. Finding tiny prints, notions, and accouterments is quite difficult.
I have a hard time finding doll size zippers and appropriate size trims and lace. I saw in a comment saying they use “thin” velcro. I have not seen that but it sounds like it would be better for doll clothes than the regular type.
I shop for doll fabrics, buttons, trims etc. at second hand stores. I buy infants/toddlers clothes. I use the fabric for doll clothes and clip off trims, buttons, zippers and anything else small scale that I can use for another doll project.
I love sewing and crocheting for dolls, and my grandkids, nieces and nephews! Anyway it is sometimes hard to find small items sp I love shopping on Pixie Faire!
I would love to sign up for Sewing With Cinnamon, but with my schedule I don’t know when I’d be able to watch. Is it available at any time or just when you are on?
I shop for material at JoAnn Fabric and Walmart, but would like to start exploring Hobby Lobby.
I’ve just started sewing for my granddaughter and great nieces and I’m happy to see so many suggestions here for finding supplies.
I have the hardest time finding the perfect tiny print fabrics for my doll skirts and dresses. I can usually find a tiny flower print, but Christmas, 7/4 and Halloween fabrics in my local stores tend to have small prints in a scale that is just a bit too large for the dainty look I prefer.
I shop for doll material at local quilt shops, WalMart, JoAnn Fabrics, or any place that has what I may need. If I can’t find exactly what I need, I talk with my Sister, Mother, Grandmother, and Mother-in-Law for advice and can usually improvise a solution. These ladies can sew very well and are amazing.
I definitely struggle to find mini notions. Wish I knew more suppliers.
I am looking for small separating zippers for doll jackets.I found small buttons at hobby lobby, but I am looking for a greater variety of types and colors. I also am looking for thinner colored Velcros and doll-sized laces and trims. I repurpose t-shirts for doll knits. I simply love sewing towel clothes, but it is so hard to find those tiny supplies and trims. What a wonderful opportunity to share our sources of notions and fabrics! Thank you.
I have the hardest time finding narrow trims and lace for 14 and 18 in patterns.
I shop for doll supplies at Home Sew. But always looking for new resources
I usually go to Amazon or other mail order sites because I was living 50 miles from everywhere.
I shop for doll clothes making supplies online. But have my eyes open for buys wherever I go
I found it hard to find doll size buttons, zippers, buckles, 1/4 inch trim, separating zippers and 1/4 inch lace. I find most of this oneBay, the internet and Etay
I buy small scale fabric prints at my local quilt shop.
I have a hard time finding doll sized buckles, zippers, Velcro and basically tiny everything. I usually just make things plain but would love to have these items!
I find doll scale props at the dollar store often. The thrift store is often great for mini pitchers and small plates.
I struggle to find tiny notions but usually get what I can find at Joann’s or Hobby Lobby. I am new to sewing so have not tried anything more complex than sew on snaps or lace trim though.
Thank you for asking! I have the hardest time finding time. So in 2020, I hope to have a specific day and time allotted to just sew:)
I have the hardest time finding doll size zippers. I’m not very good at cutting down zippers to the size needed for any outfit and have yet to find zippers the right length. The 7" zippers come close but are still a bit too long. When I try to cut it down to size I find that the teeth of the zipper never seem to work correctly.
I shop for doll size accessories where ever I go. Christmas ornaments are a good place to find items just the right size.
I have the hardest time finding fabrics that are the right scale and weight. I also have a hard time finding trims that are the right scale.
I shop for fabrics at repurpose stores. Generally I can find great fabrics for $2 a yard or less! Seems like people who used to sew garments but now prefer to quilt tend to donate their unused stashes to repurpose shops or group garage sales.
I have the hardest time finding fabrics like appropriately scaled plaid taffeta for holiday dresses. Joann’s hasn’t had any in a few years now, but I have found a few great choices at the repurpose shops.
I have a hard time finding a nice light weight denim to use for dolls jeans and overalls.
I like to repurpose whatever I can. So shopping thrift stores and yard sales is great for material to use for doll clothes. I find whatever kind of material I need.
I have a hard time finding the thin Velcro.
I have a hard time finding buckles for overalls for smaller dolls (10-11") and am unsure of what size to even buy. I found Home Sew through Pixie Faire and started using them and Amazon for 18" size. I also have a hard time finding trims the correct size and scale.
I always find cute kids clothes in second hand stores, that I reuse for doll clothes.
I like to sew doll dresses that have old world style looks and find it challenging to find small pewter findings.
I have the hardest time finding doll size zippers.
I have the hardest time finding doll size buckles, d rings and super thin velcro.
I have a hard time finding cute fabric
I can usually find small print fabric at Joann’s or Hobby Lobby but I have a hard time finding the super thin Velcro
I have the hardest time finding heavy weight fusible interfacing for sewing … FIESTA :)
I have started finding material and accessories at estate auctions. I also buy clothes off the clearance at Walmart for upcycling
I’ve had the hardest time finding doll size buttons and snaps.
I have the hardest time finding belt buckles and overall fasteners in the right sizes and styles- I can find the faux rhinestone looking sliders but they are too modern/evening for the historic style dresses I make. I wish there was a greater variety of sizes and styles available. Mostly I shop eBay when Joann’s, Hobby Lobby and Walmart let me down. But often don’t find what I want there either.
II have a hard time finding fancy fabric for gowns and shoes with heels for fashion dolls. Embellishments are impossible to find unless you have a great imagination.
I have a hard time finding good quality I/4" lace.
I have the hardest time finding Thin Velcro that are like what American Girl and Barbie uses, because it doesn’t have huge hooks and the loads of fuzz like the general kind that you find in Joann’s or Hobby Lobby. It lays flat secretly – which is nice for taking photo shoots.
I have the hardest time finding small zippers, buttons, doll-sized trims in local sewing stores. I’m not a big online shopper because of the shipping costs. It kills me to pay just as much for shipping as for my sewing needs.

I shop for doll supplies at JoAnne Fabric, Walmart and Hobby Lobby. Would love to know where I could find miniature accessories for 18” doll.
