I shop for doll supplies at Home Sew.
usually just use Velcro. also have zippers bought from you. too hard to find the small pieces.
I mostly shop for fabric at Fabricland or online at Fabricville. However 5 inch seperating zippers and other doll sized notions are an extreme issue for me to find. Buckles and items like that seem to be out of my reach.
I have the hardest time finding zippers and buttons to scale.
I shop for doll zippers, buckles, buttons and sometimes fabric at Home Sew. I shop for fabric at JoAnn’s, and Fabric.com also. I have had a challenge finding small gromets for the Kelibu Fortune Teller pattern.
I shop for material and notions at Joann Fabrics and Wal-Mart to make clothing for 18 inch dolls
I have a hard time finding… pretty much everything! I live in a small town with 2 quilting /knitting stores that don’t carry most of what I need. It’s easier sometime to go to the thrift store and find some nice piece of clothing to deconstruct. Forget trying to get any doll notions here.
I have the hardest time finding doll notions that are the correct size and don’t cost a lot. I’m started to make a lot of doll clothes to sell and want to keep my prices as low as possible. Thanks for this awesome giveaway :-)
I have the hardest time finding trims and decorative buttons/snaps and other closures that are the right proportion. It can be hard to tell online and I don’t have many options locally.
I shop for XXL knit t-shirts on sale at department stores to cut up and use for leggings and stretchy clothes patterns. Lovely colors and cheap!!
I have the hardest time finding all notions for sewing doll clothes. I know they are available but just can’t find them.
I shop for fabric at Joann Fabrics. I also like to find human clothing items to repurpose into doll clothes.
I shop for droll notions at JoAnns or my sisters and friends stashed
I have the hardest time trying to find small zippers and thin Velcro. I shop at Hobby Lobby, A C Moore, and JoAnn’s, because each of them have some of the things I need. Would be nice for them to actually have a designated doll notions area.
I also use HomeSew, and some things from CR Crafts. I am now finding it difficult to purchase brass overall buckles – recently, I was told they aren’t being made anymore, just the silver tone buckles.
“I shop for material at Joann’s or WalMart. That is all our town has since the Hancocks closed." “I have the hardest time finding zippers, so mostly use baby buttons.”
I shop for doll size buttons and other supplies in the craft stores and Walmart but sometimes order on line.
L try to adapt what I have on hand , also shop at Fabricland .
“I shop for zippers at https://www.wawak.com/Zippers/Zippers-1"
I have the hardest time finding CUTE fabric with the smaller prints that look so nice on the dolls because I feel that it truly makes a difference.
I shop for small buttons mostly on line but also in the scrapbooking and craft departments at Michaels and walmart. Small zippers often come from on-line stores but lace and ribbon are often great finds at Value Village. I live in a small town in Northern Saskatchewan so have to travel 1 1/2 hours to shop. It is often easier to find my needs on line, but fabric mostly comes from the stash I have already or thrift stores.
I usually shop at Joann Fabrics. It is difficult to find notions of the right proportion. I can never find the right sized zippers there.
I usually shop at Joann Fabrics. It is difficult to find notions of the right proportion. I can never find the right sized zippers there.
I shop for fabric at Joann. I love their coupon discounts.
I love to use quilting fabrics to make doll dresses from my local quilting stores. However, I have the hardest time finding zippers that are small enough for 18" dolls!
In the past a friend of mine found 3/8" velcro at an Etsy shop. we went together and bought a reel of it and then divided it. One side was the soft side and the other the gripping side. Love it and it is much easier to stitch through than the stuff you get at sewing shops. Can’t remember the name of the shop but would think a bit of searching might find it.
I have the hardest time finding doll size zippers, and shoe materials. I did end up ordering it from Pixie faire. At least the shoe material. I do shop at joann`s and amazon. I also grab things at 2nd hand stores or garage sales if I`m lucky . I buy a lot of my material at 2nd hand stores also.
I shop the thrift stores/rummage sales sometimes to find the small prints I am looking for and love re-purposing the items into something useful! Always fun to think outside the box!!
We have Wal-Mart but no fabric store per se in our town anymore. Hancock Fabrics closed. I usually shop for my doll supplies online with Home Sew. I couldn’t narrow it to one supply because I get most of them there.
The hardest thing for me to find are the closure items (small buttons, zippers, buckles) and some embellisments for doll clothes. I find fabrics at quilt shops and Joann/s mostly.
I shop at joanns for notions but find it hard to find zips sized for doll fashions
Not only Historical prints scaled smaller but spotting the tiny weave of
a fabric suitable for dolls is difficult.
I have the hardest time finding thin velcro
I shop for garment closures at bead shops. The necklace/bracelet clasps and findings are easy for little fingers to open and are the right scale. I really despise velcro closures and try to find alternatives where ever I can. Thanks for the give away.
I found doll size eyelets in various colors and sizes at the eyletoutlet.com
I find lots of notions and fabric for my dolls at SAS Phoenix, AZ. You can find small pieces of fabric and trims at a good price.
I’m just getting stared on making doll clothes so my supplies and knowledge are very limited. I usually shop for fabric at JoAnn Fabrics store at their closeout racks or their 50%off bins. These small projects are just the right size for me to get finished as I’m recovering.
I have the hardest time finding trims that are small enough to be correct proportions. There used to be a Wrights outlet near where i lived but that closed down several years ago.
I shop for doll supplies for wigs, patterns, doll stands, shoes, etc, for my antique & modern dolls at Dollspart.
I shop for fabric at Joanns and watch for their sales! Also shop at local thrift store and watch for sewing notions at garage sales.
I buy my zippers and hook and loop tape, small buttons at zipper that doll, Nancy’s notions, home sew and other online sites such as amazon and eBay. Everything else at Joanne Fabrics. The hardest thing to find is overall buckles in the small size. Most places don’t carry them or they are discontinued.
I shop for ribbons and sequins at Michael’s.
I re-purpose a lot of notions, but I have also found a wonderful store on line Home Sew that has a number of doll notions as well as Nancy’s Notions. There used to be a lot more of the shops but they have sadly dwindled.
I buy my doll fabric at Joanne’s. I have a hard time finding velcro
in large quantities. Thank you!
I like vintage fabrics, especially from the 1930’s and 1940’s, so I look for fabric at flea markets, yard sales, and antique shops.
I buy most of my supplies from fabric stores and am always on the look-out at garage sales for new unused items.
I shop mostly online because I don’t have any stores nearby. Sometimes I go to Joann’s, which is 45 miles away!
I have the hardest time finding print fabric in a small enough scale for doll clothing. Rather than fabric stores, I find I have better luck at flea markets and yard sales and repurposing clothing.
I have the hardest time finding appropriately sized velcro for closures.
Unfortunately, like many others I’m limited to the big named stores that carry fabrics and notions. I always stroll through the bead/jewelry and scrapbook supply areas. Use your imagination. Check the popular bracelet supplies that include slides that can be used on mock belts. Other bracelet supplies adapt. (Don’t forget to take your coupons) Only sew with fabrics you really love. Your time and talents are worth more than you may think. Beautiful small prints (with matching prints) are always available at quilt stores. Always check out their discontinued bolts. Remember, what you make today may be an heirloom 30 years from now. Happy hunting!
I shop for shoe soles at Pixie Faire, of course!
I shop for most of my doll supplies in my own sewing room. I have way too much stuff that I have found and collected for many years. I almost always have what I am looking for. This is both good and bad. :)
The place I found a few years ago is HomeSew.com. I can find just about anything I need there from patterns, ready made clothing and shoes, plus lots of small sized supplies for just about anything I want to make for the 18 inch dolls.
If I want to buy something premade for either of my granddaughters, I found Silly Monkey a number of years ago. There they sell just about anything you’d need for an 18" doll; girl or boy doll. They have clothing, shoes, jewelry, bedding, doll food, glasses, hats, scarves, and they even have a small shopping basket. A couple times a year they have awesome sales where you can get some huge bargains on things they are discontinuing, or for whatever reason, but they are super affordable; even more than they usually sell things for. I have gotten some super bargains there. OF course, I didn’t have to make them, but my granddaughters were just excited to get more even if Grandma didn’t make them.
I have the hardest time finding buckles and fabric with an appropriate scale print that is stylish and affordable.
I shop for fabric at Joann and Hobby Lobby.
I find a lot of my buttons and zipper at estate sales and garage sales.
I have the hardest time finding thin rubber to make realistic soles for doll sneakers and thin versions of fabrics with small or no print for sweaters, coats, brocades etc.
I’ve had the best luck finding my doll supplies at Newark dressmaker supply. They have both catalogs and an online store.
I have the hardest time finding zippers for doll clothes. Thank you for the information with sites to shop at!
I live on an island with one fabric store. So I use several online sites that I like: Etsey Joanne’s and Amazon.
I have the hardest time finding knit fabrics. I made a doll shirt, but it took forever just to find that kind of fabric.
I shop for dolly zippers and shoes at Home Sew. I’ve been ordering from them for years and am never disappointed!
I shop for fabric and notions at Hobby Lobby. However, I buy most of my fabric from my local Goodwill store, frequently purchasing baby or children’s clothes which I take apart to cut my patterns from for my granddaughter’s Bitty Baby.
I shop for specialty fabrics at Anne George’s Fabric Treasury. Anne is amazing to purchase from, and has fabrics I haven’t found anywhere else. She has the most beautiful silk fabrics, even dyeable silk and silk dye. Sometimes I order fabric from her just so I can put it in my stash and look at it :). Her shop is a gem I’d rather keep to myself, but you really should go and look.
i hve the hardest time finding doll size buttons and small print holiday theme fabrics. I shop ormost of my sewing stuff at joann’s or at the triftstore.
I repurpose as much as I can so for me it’s off to the thrift store I go. It takes extra time but I think it’s worth it. We also have a repurpose business in a town near mine that I like to go to every chance I get.
I shop for doll supplies mostly at JoAnn’s and Hobby Lobby but I also shop on-line. It’s difficult to find small scale anything.
Love all the give aways And the pattern selection is great.
I shop for all of my sewing supplies at Joann’s.
I shop for all of my doll supplies at Hobby Lobby as it is the only store close by that has the supplies. I have the hardest time finding small zippers to fit the dolls. Thank you for all you do.
“I shop for dolly patterns on the internet. There is a large selection of patterns that I can not find locally."
I shop for fabric at Fabricland, Joanna & thrift shops. I have hard time finding small zippers
I shop for doll fabrics, trims and notions at our local Goodwill outlet. Can you imagine an OUTLET for a thrift store? Think row upon row of piles of clothing to dig through (including some amazing vintage finds) that you pay for at a low “by the pound” price! You can even bring your scissors and seam ripper and remove just what you need and leave the rest behind! There are also other bins with things other than clothing that contain treasures like patterns, packs of tiny rick rack, trims, ribbons and so much more. Check to see if there is a location near you!
I have the hardest time finding doll zippers.
I shop for doll supplies everywhere I can. Online, Joann’s, micheals, hobby lobby and now I have discovered that Pixiefaire is a real good source for these supplies, although some of the supplies I wanted were sold out, oh well I will just have keep on checking.
I have the hardest time finding separating zippers that work properly with the patterns. The fabric stores in my area have to order the sizes I need, or I need to adjust for the pattern, it would be great to win
“I have the hardest time finding fabric with small scale prints for period dresses, especially at a good price. Narrow ribbon and trim material.
I have a hard time finding small separating zippers at a reasonable price. I’ve looked at truesew.com and WAWAK.com.
“I have the hardest time finding doll size buckles and small zippers for jackets.
I find most of my trims and lace at St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store. Not only is it a bargain (e.g., spool of ribbon for 25 cents) but I can feel good about donating to their awesome charity work. I also upcycle unusual clothes for fabric.
I like to repurpose fabrics for a lot of my doll clothes, so I end up having a large stash in my house. I have trouble finding small buckles.
I shop for notions at home. My Mom used to make clothes for my 21" Madame Alexander Cissy doll and some of the tiny notions she bought still exist, plus I’ve collected vintage sewing notions for years and would buy any tiny buttons & buckles I could find. I get Velcro & such from JoAnn & when I’m ready to do shoes, I’ll be ordering from Pixie Faire of course!
This is an amazing giveaway! Thank you so much for offering it!!!
I shop for fabric and this really great local fabric store. The owners are always there and are really nice and helpful. I’ve been going there for years and I love it so much!
I shop for fabrics at Joanns, Hobby Lobby, Walmart, thrift stores, garage sales. Always thinking of what can even a torn or stained piece of clothing be repurposed into.
I have the hardest time finding small print fabrics for dolls, as well as doll sized buckles, and buttons that aren’t plastic!
I shop at local fabric shops, Joanns and Hobby Lobby, but they don’t have very many notions for doll clothes, especially small zippers. I don’t shop on line very much so I just make do with small snaps and buttons. It would be great to win this bundle to help me sewing for dolls. I love your web site.
Here is my list for supplies Hobby lobby scrapbook session is great for tiny buckles and buttons. plus sew-ology. Now as for zippers I buy my from Wawak Sewing and cut then down. Cinnamon,s Nov. theme zippers shows you how to do it. They do a lot but 2 get one free and buy one get one. I buy 14’’ cut it down, DON.T THROW THE PART YOU CUT OFF AWAY USE IT FOR ACCENTS OR ROLL UP TO MAKE FLOWERS. Hook and loop tape – I use the one way Velcro that you use to wrap around cords. LADIES IT DOESN.T STICK TO HAIR OR NO MORE SNAGGING FABRIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
“I have the hardest time finding natural fasteners, i.e. MOP, wood, horn, bone, etc.”
I find most of my supplies at Homesew and Joann’s. Sometimes I’m lucky enough to have someone give me their stash of sewing supplies.
I do a lot of my shopping at the thrift store as there really is not much else in my town. Which means I have the hardest time finding little zippers and buttons.
I have the hardest time finding doll size zippers and lightweight yarn in colors other than baby pastels; we only have Joann’s and Hobby Lobby in our small town, and the stores don’t have the selection that they have in larger cities. (So I have to shop online!)
I have the hardest time finding doll zippers and velcro.
“I shop for fabric at thrift stores and in the clearance section at clothing stores. I often find what I’m looking (as well as more realistic material) from clothing.
I’ve been shopping Home-Sew for over 50 years! Always great prices and good service. I was so glad to heat Pixi-Faire had joined forces with home-sew.
I find a great selection of lightweight and separating zippers at Wawak online – I have a lot of trouble finding moire taffeta these days – cheers
My 7 year old daughter and I are just learning to sew! We are excited to sew clothes for her doll. Thank you for all the inspiration! Gayle
I shop for my doll supplies online at places such as Home Sew, TLC Doll, Tallina’s and Martha Pullen. I shop at home at Joann’s, and other local small antique and heirloom shops.
I have the hardest time finding small scale prints to make clothing for 18 inch dolls.
I have the hardest time finding zippers, buckles and tiny buttons.

I purchase doll supplies at Jo-Ann’s or Hobby Lobby. Also Farmhouse Fabrics has a Doll’s Closet where you can buy fabrics, trims, buttons, clothing and accessories. When I was a child you could write a letter to Wrights Trims and they would send you and envelope full of scraps of trims to use on doll clothes. Wish companies would do that now
