It’s that time of the year when all the stores have shelves and shelves of fun school supplies! All the colors, designs, and characters make it fun to shop and pick out a collection that you’ll love. Follow along with this easy tutorial to see how to make your dolls their very own curated collection of back to school folders, ready for the upcoming school year!
Supplies:
• Pretty cardstock paper (you want stiffer paper for this)
• Ruler
• Pencil
• Scissors
• Craft or tacky glue
• Hole punch
Step 1: Draw a rectangle on the back of one of your papers 7 inches wide and 6 inches tall.
Step 2: Cut out this rectangle, and draw in the following lines: measuring up from the bottom 1 1/2inches, draw a line. Measuring down from the top 1/2 inch, draw a line. And measuring in 3/8 inch on either side, draw a line.
Step 3: Cut off the top two corners at a diagonal angle, just touching the point where the lines cross. At the bottom corners, cut off the tall, thin rectangles made by your lines, doing so at an angle at the top and long sides. See our photo for reference.
Step 4: Carefully using the edge of your scissors, score along the straight pencil lines. To score means you barely scrape the paper, but don’t go all the way through. If you are new to this, please protect your work surface.
Step 6: The scoring will make it easy to do the next step - fold up the large bottom flap, then fold in the side flaps, then the top flap. Use your fingernail or edge of your scissors to make nice sharp creases.
Step 7: Apply craft glue to the side and top flaps only, and glue down. Make sure the side flaps go over the large, bottom flap. Hold in place until set.
Step 8: Once the glue is set, fold your folder in half. Then use your hole punch to punch three holes along the folded edge.
Step 9: Using lined or plain white paper, cut sheets of paper for your doll that are 3 1/2 inches tall and 2 1/2 inches wide to put in your folder.
These are sooo cute, and so easy to make! It’ll be easy to make your doll a fun collection of folders she can’t wait to use for school this year!

Comme la plupart: nouvelle boîte de crayons de couleur aiguisés pointus et nouveaux cahiers. J’adorais étaler le tout sur mon lit et sentir l’odeur du neuf.
Crayons at first, and when I got a little older, those perfectly sharpened colored pencils.
I loved new sharp colored pencils! These folders are adorable!
Crayons & they still are!
A nice big box of Crayola crayons always put a smile on my face.
It has to be a new box of 64 color crayons, the skinny kind. I never really like the “fat” crayons of Kindergarten. The number of beautiful colors, including the metallic ones, was a great creativity stimulus.

I still shop through the back to school aisle even though my child is now in his 40s. So many pretty things, all still shiny and new. Thanks for this tutorial so my dolls can have pretty new supplies, too.

I was so excited when erasable ink pens came out, because I always made mistakes and ink erasers made a mess of my home work.
I love a fresh notebook that doesn’t have scribble on it.

Loved a new box of Crayola crayons — the best smell! Also narrow lined filler paper.
My favorite school supplies were the notebooks and folders because that was where your personality got to peak out in the pretty designs. As an adult I will still occasionally go get a pretty notebook or folder. They have some really cool ones available. 🙂

My favorite school supply was Bic Clic Pens! They came in cool colors—and it was the first pen that we had that wasn’t a pen used in a inkwell or a cartridge pen. It was so great to write without getting ink all over my fingers!

I will say my favorite school supply when going to school was Crayola Crayons. My school years are way behind me yet I still indulge each year with my newest coloring devices . . . Sharpies.
I think I was in the fourth grade when my mother bought me a special ball point pen. I don’t remember exactly how it worked, but there were three colors of ink: red, blue, and I think, green. No one else in fourth grade had one so it was very special.
In middle school (junior high) I always loved the fountain pens, and art supplies, and NEW teachers….!

We had leather satchels to carry our books and homework. I loved when they got a bit battered and worn, so much character!
A new Eversharp in a pretty color was my favorite once I became old enough to leave pencils behind.
This may date me, but I loved stocking up on Pee-Chees. The old folders that I would cover with drawings, scribblings, notes, and phone numbers. They were covered with memories by the end of the school year.
Any supplies related to my Home Economics class.

There was a newsletter sent to all students. To me it was a necessity, not a mere supply. To read the important news of the day made me feel like a real grownup, even though it was written for middle school aged children.
Pencils and folders!
I always loved new folders with all the fun pictures on them!
