Two Tulips Dress gets its name from the lovely tulip style sleeves. Other eye-catching details include a contrast hem band and peter pan style collar. Princess seams provide a wonderful fit and silhouette. Fully lined, using the “burrito” method of construction, this dress is as nicely finished on the inside as it is on the outside.
This design is best made with lightweight woven fabrics such as Lawn or Batiste because of the number of layers of fabric at the shoulder. Quilting cotton can be used with some minor changes in construction, which are discussed in the pattern.
Back closure instructions are given for using hook and loop tape. But with the 1/2” seam allowance at the center back, snaps, buttons, or a zipper could be used if desired.

Recommended Fabrics: Lightweight woven such as Lawn
Supplies Needed:
- MAIN FABRIC: One fat quarter (18” X 22”) OR 1/4 yd 45” wide
- CONTRAST: Scrap 9” X 22” OR 1/6 yd 45” wide
- LINING: Scrap 11” X 22” OR 1/4 yd 45” wide
- Hook and loop tape for 6” opening: (Example used ¾” wide double sided hook and loop tape, cut in half lengthwise to create two 3/8” wide strips). Optional Closure - ½” center back seam allowance is provided so snaps, buttons, or zipper may be used, if preferred
- Thread to match.
- OPTIONAL: Three small buttons for center front.
- Standard sewing and pressing tools.
- Helpful items include a serger, hand sewing needle with extra-large eye, pressing ham or sleeve roll, and pinking shears.
