Many young ones are embracing their culture and learning the age old dances and customs. Just imagine a young girl twirling and waving her arms as she watches her ribbons trailing her every move. This is the inspiration for the Powwow Dress!
The Powwow Dress is a relatively easy dress to make and decorating is is the fun part. Use your imagination to try different trims or ribbons. Try out your own design with beads and cording or even sew beads right to the yoke. The possibilities are endless! One thing for sure is your doll will be sure to turn heads at your next special event.
This pattern by My AG Doll Creations is designed to fit 18" dolls such as American Girl®.
Recommended Fabrics: medium weight cotton, quilters cotton, fat quarter
Supplies Needed:
- 8" cut of 45" wide cotton print for the yoke and bottom band
- Piece of plain fabric 8" x 22" for main dress (fat quarter)
- Thread
- 13" of 1/2" single fold bias tape
- 5" hook and loop fastener cut 1/4" wide
- Optional snaps
- 3 yds of 1/4" ribbon
- 2 1/2 yds of 1/8" ribbon
18" or more of faux suede cording or other type of cording for beads
- 15 - 1/4" beads with holes big enough for cording to go through
- Some sort of fray stop for the ribbons
- A piece of fabric 2 1/2" x 23" for the tie belt or purchased ribbon 22" long
