“Melrose”, by Karen Lorraine Design, is a pretty, sleeveless dress designed to fit 10½"- 12" (27-31cm) dolls such as: Barbie® Fashionistas®, Blythe®, and Pullip™. The sleeveless dress is made from woven (non-stretch) fabrics and contains easy darts in the front and back of the bodice. These darts, along with the simple (dartless) facing give the bodice a beautiful shape. A gathered skirt and simple closures complete the outfit.
A Dart Supplement is offered at the back of the pattern for seamstresses who are new to dart sewing. In addition, while the dress is intended to be turned right way out through the shoulders, instructions are given for those who have arthritic fingers or prefer not to turn through the shoulders. There are also some quick tips on sewing for small dolls.
Clear instructions and photos are given for each step (along with shortcut instructions for those who prefer no photos).
Extra sizing information: The Blythe® doll this pattern will fit is known as Neo-Blythe®, while the pattern will fit Pullip™ dolls who have Type 3 and 4 bodies. The pattern will also fit the Barbie® sizes known as Tall, Curvy and Petite, and it will also fit other small fashion dolls like Disney Descendants® and Disney Princesses® dolls as it is, or by slight adjustments to the back edges.
Barbie® Fashionista® is one of the main Barbie® doll ranges. She is an 11½" (29cm) Fashion Doll. Here are her measurements if you wish to compare her to other dolls:
Bust 5 inches (12.7cm)
Waist 3½ inches (8.9cm)
Hips 5⅛ inches (13cm).
Note: To my knowledge, three molds of Curvy Barbie® have been released. My mold measures:
Bust 13cm
Waist 10.5cm
Hips 15.5cm (at the widest part).
Suggested Fabrics: Light-weight woven cotton like lawn, voile, cotton, and light-weight quilting cotton.
Supplies Needed:
• 20" (wide) x 10" (deep) [or 0.5m wide x 0.25m deep], cotton non-stretch fabric like voile, lawn, cotton, or lightweight quilting cotton.
• Embellishments like lace, buttons, applique, jewels.
• Matching or contrasting thread.
• Hook and loop tape or similar for closures.
• Seam sealant. (Optional. I have not used it in this pattern, except for sealing the ends of the lace fringe.)
