“Lace Vest”, by Karen Lorraine Design, is a simple knitting pattern offering a stylish vest for keeping your doll warm on the cooler days. It has an easy quatrefoil lace pattern, which consists of a few yarn overs and slip-slip-knit. As the pattern is very regular, it is easy to remember where you are on the pattern stitches and yet still end up with a sophisticated look.
The vest is made up of three pieces: a front, and two backs. The back has a knit center edging with buttonholes. You can wear the vest reversed, and thus have a gentle sleeveless cardigan vest. The vest is worked flat from the bottom up on straight needles.
Seams can be finished in any method you prefer (and extra instructions are given for finishing the seams with a mattress stitch).
This vest will fit 18-inch dolls like American Girl® or Our Generation™. It can also be used for most yarns (and is pictured on the front cover in 100% merino wool).
Note: The skirt featured in these photos is from the “Utility Skirt” pattern, while the blouse is from the “Tyrol” pattern. (The sleeveless blouse uses the same pattern without the sleeves.)

- Knit and purl, cast on and bind off.
- Decreasing.
- Very basic lace stitches of yo and ssk.

- 2.75mm needles for working flat (or required needles to meet the gauge)
- Yarn 194yds/178m
- 1 Stitch Holder
- Yarn (tapestry) needle for finishing seams
- Five buttons
- Rust-proof pins for Blocking
