The “Classic Shoe” is a traditional Mary Jane style shoe designed for slim 16” dolls such as A Girl for All Time®. Two sizes are included in this PDF sewing pattern; one for a “Roomy” fit, which will accommodate socks, and one with a close “Classic” fit. They are made of vinyl which can be purchased in the home decorating department of most fabric stores, or directions are given to create your own vinyl from any woven fabric. The soles are made from simple cardboard and covered with craft foam. The edges of the sole can be covered with craft foam or a decorative trim. The inner sole is lined. The shoe closes with a strap, which fastens with a snap. Decorative buttons and bows can be added for embellishment.
Special Note - This pattern is designed to fit A Girl For All Time Dolls specifically and will not fit the standard 18 inch doll such as American Girl® Doll. An AGAT doll is 16 inches tall and has a slimmer hard plastic body. You can see more info on our Doll Measurements page.

A Note about Vinyl:
These shoes work best when made from a heavy vinyl. You can find a good selection of vinyl fabrics in the home decorating department of most fabric stores in a wide range of colors. Choose a heavy vinyl and you will get a sturdy shoe; the red sample is made from “Marine” vinyl from Jo-Ann Fabric & Craft store. Thin vinyls tend to stretch out of shape, and don’t hold up well. If you want to match an outfit exactly, you can make your own custom vinyl, following the directions in this pattern.
