The 5-gored skirt can be made with or without the side slit. The skirt of the dress is extra long in the back, forming a beautiful long train behind her. The dress opens in the back and the bodice opens on one side. Make the top with sheer mesh knit or use an optional woven version. You can make this dress as grand or as simple as you like!
This pattern is perfectly tailored for the newer 18" American Girl® dolls, but bonus pattern pieces are included for the wider body dolls as well. The finished dress measure 10 7/8" at the waist. The pattern contains professionally presented Vector-drawn patterns and fully illustrated step-by-step photos & diagrams. There are 28 pages of instructions, glossary, photos, & Information, including hints for beginning sewists.
Recommended Fabrics: Dress Top- Stretch Mesh, Jersey, Sheer Fabrics; Dress Skirt-Satin, Crepe, Poly Dupioni, or similar; Bodice - Same as Skirt plus Taffeta, overlay of lace if desired; Train (Cape)- Chiffon, Organza, Mesh, Lace; Lining- Lightweight Silky Polyester Lining Fabrics
Supplies Needed:
-Dress Top: ¼ yard Lightweight Stretch Mesh
-Dress Skirt: ¾ yard Satin, Crepe, polyester Dupioni, or similar
-Bodice: ¼ yard - same as skirt, plus Taffeta types
-Train: 1 yard Chiffon, Organza, Mesh & similar
-Lining: 1 yard for bodice, train, & skirt facings; Lightweight silky type is the only kind that should be used for this project. These are found in the lining section and also with special occasion fabrics.
-Interfacing Remnant: (Optional) lightweight fusible or knit interfacing (only needed if snap is used)
-Extra Decorative Trims: Trims, Sequins, or Fabric Paint for embellishment, if desired
-Desired Closures: (hook and loop tape , snaps, buttons, etc)
-Notions: Additional embroidery thread or appliqués if desired
-Matching Thread
-Pinking Shears for fabric that frays
