The School Dance Dress is an easy to sew pattern to make a long sleeved dress in three variations. Add elastic to the sleeves or leave it out for a fuller look. Choose the simplest version with a solid front (perfect for machine embroidery, heat transfer vinyl, or appliqué), or add a contrasting panel with simple, straight edges or a pretty, princess seam. BONUS: Instructions included for an attached bow, belt or ribbon to tie in front or back to embellish your dress and create your own style.
This classic but simple dress is very easily made from a quarter yard of fabric (quilter's fat quarters work great!) in a woven cotton or other lightweight fabric. Mix and match your fabrics and add trims for unlimited design options. Embellish your dress with embroidery, appliqué, heat transfer vinyl, buttons, bows, crystals, ribbon, trim, ric rac, lace, chain, beads, or any other fun trim you like! With a hook and loop tape closure in back, it's easy on and off for little hands. This pattern is also a perfect pattern for girls that want to learn to sew for their dolls to use to create a full wardrobe for their dolls, or for more experienced seamstresses to make a basic doll wardrobe with lots of options.
This PDF sewing pattern was specifically designed and tested on 18 inch dolls such as American Girl®. My dolls have a waist measurement average of 10 1/2 inches. Please measure and test the fit on your own doll as there are many on the market and it may not fit the same on all of them.
This pattern is also available for 16" Disney Animator dolls, as well as 14.5 inch dolls such as WellieWishers.
Recommended Fabrics: quilter's cotton, lightweight cotton, eyelet, seersucker etc.
