10 reviews   |

This 1830s dress by Thimbles and Acorns features a crossed pleated bodice that is set in a narrow waistband. Fitted upper sleeves drop gracefully from the fashionably low shoulderlines. A full lower sleeve spills from the pleated edging of the upper sleeve and fastens at the wrist with a snapped cuff. The full skirt is pleated at the front and gathered in the back. The dress closes in the back with three buttons along the bodice and a snap at the waistband.

Pretty!

This dress definitely wasn't one of the easier things I've made, but it was well worth the effort (and the extra poofy petticoat I made to wear underneath). I made this dress up in red, white, and blue for a "Red, white, and beautiful" contest and nobody could believe I'd made it! (Won, too, for the record.) So pretty, I used a heavier cotton sateen for the bulk of the dress and a lighter weight cotton for the sleeve poofies. For maximum 1830s glam, add a ribbon belt with a sparkly buckle!

Love at first sight

The moment I saw this dress, I saw possibilities, especially for the bodice. The pattern was well done and easy to follow. I found it pretty easy to alter the pattern to add contrasting stripes to the bodice but I am an experienced sewer. The first one is for my niece but I plan on doing several more.

Terrific dress!

I love the historical details on this dress! It is an involved pattern but the result is worth it. Pay attention to the pictures and written directions and it will turn out well.

Lovely Dress

This is a lovely dress. I did have problems with the bodice on the first one. One the second one, I allowed a little more fabric. Overall I am pleased with the result.

Wish there were photos

This is a complicated pattern and some steps are glossed over without any illustration. We wish that all of this designer's patterns came with photographs instead of illustrations. The drawings just do not provide the clarity needed to get the desired result. Very disappointing for expensive (for us) patterns.
