Edith WW1 VAD Nurse Uniform 18" Doll Clothes Pattern

13 reviews   |

The Edith pattern, by Genniewren Designs, is based on the World War 1 (WW1) Voluntary Aid Detachment (VAD) field hospital uniform. It is called "Edith" to commemorate Edith Cavell, a British nurse who was executed in 1915.
The PDF pattern comprises of a front fastening ankle length shirtwaist dress with white cuffs and a choice of Mandarin or Peter Pan collar; and two styles of bibbed apron with straps.
The pattern also includes elasticated oversleeves, a Red Cross or St John Ambulance brassard (armband), and a choice of headwear:  the traditional VAD “handkerchief-style” headdress, and a “Sister Dora” nurse cap, which was the standard headwear style used by many civilian hospitals at the start of WW1, and was used until as recently as the 1980s.
The collars and apron styles are interchangeable.
The Edith pattern for a WW1 volunteer nurse uniform is generic to allow you to make a nursing uniform that is representative of your own country’s role in the War.
More information about WW1 VADs is included with this pattern.
