The Holly dress, by Genniewren Designs, is a traditional style dress with a difference. It features a full fitted, lined bodice with sleeves, a gathered knee length skirt and an optional collar. This dress design is ideal for Christmas party dresses. The design set includes a charming gathered waist apron featuring an optional delicate heart-shaped pocket.
A choice of three sleeve types adds to the versatility of the dress. Designs are included for puffed sleeves with cuffs, short sleeves and long sleeves, and each sleeve type has a choice of embroidery options too.
The embroidery design set comprises the full Christmassy set with the Holly, a flower motif set without the Holly and blanks. The blank designs can be combined with your own designs if you have embroidery editing software, or you can use them to make plain dresses.
PLEASE NOTE: there is no printed pattern for this dress. The majority of the pattern pieces are created “in the hoop” meaning they are “drawn out” on your fabric with the embroidery machine. You sew them together on a regular sewing machine after embroidering. The collar and the skirt of the apron are completely constructed in the hoop. The dress skirt and apron ties are rectangles cut using measurements provided.
Full photo instructions are given. The quarter-inch seam allowances are included in all the embroidery designs and cutting out instructions.
The dress closes in the back with a hook and loop fastener closure, but instructions are given for snap closures too.
The set comprises 30 designs, which gives you a choice of three collar and three cuff options, a choice of three sleeve shapes, and three different apron options, with or without a cute heart shaped pocket.
Also included are some additional designs for you to use with your own embroidery software to add an original touch if you wish. A comprehensive list of the design files included in the zip file is included at the end of the instructions – you may wish to print this to check off the files to load to your embroidery machine.
My hope is that you will take these designs, choose the options you like best, and come up with an original creation that's unique in every way.
This pattern requires some experience of machine embroidery, including machine embroidered applique, and free standing lace techniques. You will also need basic sewing skills using an ordinary sewing machine.
Design Hoops and Sizes:
The dress and apron pieces require the 5x7 hoop or larger.
The smallest design is the single holly measuring 0.72" x 0.56".
The largest design is for the 6x10 hoop only and measures 7.57" x 3.9" but a version of that design for the 5x7 hoop is also included.

DST, EXP, HUS & PES only due to hoop limitations.
