There's nothing like a fireplace to evoke feelings of cozy warmth and comfort. Humans have been drawn to their hearths and flames for hundreds of years, and now it's time for dolls to have their own version, too!
The Crafter-Friendly Holiday Accessories pattern, by Forever 18 Inches, has been designed to pair with a Forever 18 Inches Crafter-Friendly Fireplace. The pattern includes two easy-level sewing projects: A reversible Mantle Covering, and a simple Stocking that attaches to the Mantle Covering for easy decorating. Two simple craft projects for a faux pine-branch Garland and cone-shaped Spiral Trees are also part of the package. Suggestions for alternate materials that can be substituted for the Spiral Tree are also included.
Supplies Needed:
Fabric Requirements:
Mantle Cover: ½ yd. Main Fabric and ½ yd. Lining
Stocking: ¼ yd. (or scrap) for the Stocking; 1/6 yd. (or scrap) for the Stocking Top, and a small scrap of very lightweight interfacing
Recommended Fabrics: For the Mantle Covering and Stocking: A medium-weight fabric such as Kona Cotton or quilter's cotton, lightweight velveteen or corduroy, or bridal-weight satin or taffeta. For the top of the Stocking: Lightweight fleece or a lightweight minky or fur. (Note: If you use a heavier fabric such as velveteen for one side of the Mantle Covering the reverse side should be a lightweight fabric.)
Notions:
1. Matching thread
2. One pair of small, very sharp scissors to trim seam allowances
3. Optional: Fray Check®
4. A Frixion® pen or other marking tool
5. Optional: a hemostat for turning small pieces
6. A medium-sized snap for attaching the Stocking to the Mantle Cover.
7. Optional: A couple of fishing weights with the hook removed to hold the Mantle Covering in place.
For the Mantle Garland:
1. An artificial wreath that's about 14" wide (or other source of pine-like branches)
2. Very lightweight green floral wire
3. A 17" piece of twine or string (I used one that was green to blend with the pine branches)
4. Small shiny or glittery beads
For each Spiral Tree:
1. One miniature clay pot about 3-1/8" in diameter across the top
2. One miniature cone-shaped Christmas tree, about 8-1/4" tall from base to tip
3. A glittery or shiny string of beads for each tree (I used a holiday necklace from my local dollar store and just cut the clasp off)
4. A hot glue gun and glue sticks and quick-drying tacky glue
Spiral Tree Substitute Materials:
1. A lid/cap from a can of hairspray (or other similar size cap)
2. A Styrofoam cone measuring approximately 6" tall and 3" wide at the base
3. Floral moss
4. A wooden shish kebab skewer
5. Matte Mod Podge®
6. Quick-drying tacky glue
7. Green acrylic paint and a brush
8. Gold spray paint
9. A glittery or shiny string of beads for each tree
