The Cotillion Club Gown is a design reminiscent of the coming-of-age tradition of sending “tween” girls to etiquette training programs, a.k.a. cotillions, to acquire social graces such as table manners and ballroom dancing. This semi-formal dress is typical of the cotillion dress code of the 50s and 60s. Three versions of the dress are included. Choose lined cap sleeves or a sleeveless option with armscye facings. The fitted bodice is framed by a round collar and a pleated cummerbund. The cummerbund has optional hanging tie ends and a purchased or handmade corsage accent. The very full skirt has a deep hem, typical of the era. Just add your favorite accessories and your doll is ready for the Cotillion!

This pattern is modeled on WellieWishers™ and Ruby Red Fashion Friends™ dolls, but should fit similar dolls in this size range, such as Glitter Girls®.

Recommended Fabrics: For Views A and B main fabric: Lightweight Wovens such as Dupioni, Rayon, Cotton, Polished Cotton, Taffeta, Gingham, Calico, Plaids.
For View A contrasting sleeves, cummerbund, collar tie ends: Contrasting batiste, lawn, lightweight cotton, polished cotton, taffeta, organza.
For all views interfacing: Lightweight woven fusible interfacing or lightweight sew-in interfacing for bodice back. Not suitable for nonwoven fusible.
Not suitable for heavy-weight fabrics, sequins, chenille, velour, or knits
Supplies Needed:
Main Fabric—All Views:
- 1/4 yd fabric (or 1 fat quarter) with nap
- Two 3" strips 3/8" wide fusible interfacing
Contrasting Sleeves, Collar, Cummerbund, tie ends:
- ¼ yd (or scrap) contrasting or sheer woven fabric
Interfacing:
- ⅛ yd from bolt or 3” strips cut from workroom scraps
Notions:
- 2 ½” or smaller fancy buttons (may be covered buttons)
- High quality matching polyester or rayon thread, depending on fabric choice
- New needle with point and size appropriate to fabric selection (in the 9-12 size range)
- Commercially-made matching fabric corsage approximately 1” in diameter
