The Flossie Potter Swim Cap is called RETRO because the swim cap, or "bathing cap," was an essential part of women's and girls swim wear for many earlier decades.
In the 1880s the first versions of the swim cap were introduced. They were made of rubber on the inside with satin on the outside. By the Roaring '20s, the cap was not only functional but fashionable. In the 1940s movie goers were treated to musicals with big synchronized swimming numbers that featured both plain and elaborate caps. Bathing beauties of the 1950s and 1960s showed off their colored swim caps that were often decorated with flowers and other abstract shapes.
The Flossie Potter RETRO Swim Cap comes in two sizes: Short Hair and Long Hair. The caps close with a strap under the chin. The pattern also contains traceable flowers for optional decoration.
This PDF sewing pattern contains 19 pages of instruction with full-color photos to show you how to make your own RETRO Swim Cap. It also includes 6 pages of printable summary instructions (to save on printer ink) and 3 pages of pattern pieces.
