This pattern is just for the Girl's Highland Dance Jacket, Vest and Dickey, by Genniewren Designs. Other patterns in the Highland Dress and Highland Dance Series are available to enable you to make a complete Highland dress or Highland dance outfit for your doll. The Highland Dance Jacket, Vest and Dickey pattern will allow you to make a jacket or vest that meets Highland Dance regulations. The jacket or vest are made from velvet. Black is traditional, or you can choose a color that matches the tartan.
The edge-to-edge, close-fitting jacket and vest have traditional princess seamlines and a basque-style curved lower edge having two points in the front and one at the back. The sides are also slightly curved into points.
The jacket is edged in gold or silver braid, and Highland Dance rules specify 5 decorative Scottish embossed buttons on each side of the center front. The jacket sleeves have vents that are decorated with three buttons, although up to 5 buttons are allowed by the rules.
The Vest is similar to the jacket but without sleeves. There is no braid around the armholes. Both the Jacket and Vest have a center front edge to edge closure that closes with hooks and eyes, and both are fully lined.
The pattern also contains instructions for making a “Dickey” trimmed with the regulation 3 layers of white lace. This is worn at inside the jacket neckline as the jacket is not usually worn with a blouse under it.

Recommended Fabrics: This pattern is designed for woven velvet or velveteen fabrics. A woven fabric should also be used for the lining. You will also need a small piece of woven white cotton/polycotton blend for the dickey.
Supplies Needed:
- A quarter of a yard of woven cotton velvet or velveteen (a fat quarter 18” x 22” is fine)
- A quarter of a yard of lining fabric (cotton or cotton blends are fine, or you can use the shiny lining fabric if you prefer).
- 5 x large hooks and eyes (the kind with the horseshoe shaped eyes are best)
- 2 yards of 3/8" wide silver or gold metallic ribbon or bias tape for the edging
- 10 x 7mm square or 8mm round silver or gold buttons for the vest PLUS 6 x 6mm gold or silver metallic buttons for the jacket sleeve vents
- A 8” x 3” strip of white woven cotton or poly cotton fabric for the dickey
- Half a yard of 1/2” wide flat lace for the dickey
