Flossie Potter's "1950s Swimsuit" is designed with panels of striped fabric that connect at various angles. (It can also be made without stripes, using varied colors or prints.)
Typical of that era, the suit has an under-piece with a second modesty front that flares slightly at the bottom, resembling a short dress. Its contrasting top portion is gathered in the center to give the impression of a "bow" with halter-style spaghetti straps that tie behind the neck. The legs are elasticized, and the back closes with elastic across the back waist, making the swimsuit easy to put on and take off.
This 14-page PDF sewing pattern is designed to fit 18-inch dolls such as American Girl® and sews up very easily at the intermediate level. It contains 5 pages of step-by-step instructions with full-color photo illustrations, 3 pages of pattern pieces, and 1 page of printable summary instructions (to save on printer ink!).
Pair the swimsuit with Flossie Potter's "RETRO Swim Cap" for an authentic look! You can get this pattern separately or as part of the 1950s Swimsuit and Retro Swim Cap pattern bundle.
